    PREFACE

    About 8 00 000 kill themselves annually and great sufferings are created for parents. Society also loses a working hand. More suicides can be prevented by religion and philosophy than by psychotherapy or medications. Suicides are due to the fault of suiciders. Suicides are due to the failure of parents in developing religious, social and philosophical attitudes in their children. The institution of marriage has broken down and the number of unwed mothers has increased. The rate of divorces has sharply increased. Homosexuality and cohabitation are on rise. Children do not get love from their biological parents and they do not feel attachment with other members of the society.

    SUICIDES

    Suicide is an act of killing oneself intentionally. Suicide is an intentionally caused act of self-destruction. Some people deliberately kill themselves as they do not want to live further.

    Sucidal behaviour is the act of self-murder intentionally and volunyarily. Majority of the suicides can not be prevented by psychological means only and they can be easily prevented or reduced by providing knowledge of religion and philosophy. Suicides are always preventable. Suicidal thoughts (ideation or desires) can be easily overcome by the teachings given by our religious books. Suicide rates are increasing in the wold.

    Suicide rates are higher in old people and among people who are more than 5 years old.

    Suicides are higher among those people who live alone. Older people are more firm in their will to commit suicide. Firearms are generally used by aged people for ending their lives.

    Generally suicides are caused by a weakness of character or loss of equilibrium.

    Suicide is regarded by some people as a kind of insanity.

    Suicides may be due to external and internal causes.

    Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is immoral as a man suffering from terminal illness can always do service to society.

    Heart is not the source of emotions.

    However, there is a link between heart and emotions.

    The heart is affected by feelings. Broken heart syndrome is created by extreme stress or grief This may also be created by the death of a close relative. Pain and shortness of breath may also be created by it. Death may be created by emotional trauma or cardiac problems.

    A broken heart can get relief from a happy heart.

    Suicides are linked with mental health. Mental health is created by internal and external causes. The external causes may be due to the moral faults of evil doers. Innocent men are pushed into the well of suicide by men of bad character. Many times the mental health is injured by external factors or evil doers and the hidden activities of the evil doers are not known to the suiciders.

    However, religion and philosophy can play an important role in preventing or reducing mental illness. Mental health workers, teachers, social workers and police are working constantly to prevent suicides.

    Peace of mind is best created by understanding the meanings of life and death. Philosophy and biology tell us the meanings of life and death.

    Suicides are very low in Judaism and Islamic countries due to strong religious traditions.

    During the modern conditions of life suicidal behavior has increased considerably. During old days people were living in joint families and they were socially closed to each other.

    Suicides in Greenland is at peak during long and bright days of summer. Alcohol consumption is generally associated with suicides. Suicides are due to impulsive mental health problems and disruption of sleep cycles.

    Suicide has become the main cause of death among people from fifteen to thirty years old. High income countries suffer more from suicides than poor countries. In Lithuania the suicide rate is about 319 people per 100 000 people.

    The suicide rate among white men over 85, is six times more than the general population. Old men are not well prepared for retirement and during their youth they neglect the long term outlook. They start heavy drinking. The suicide rate is highest in China and India.

    In South Korea the suicide rate is about t 26.9 people per 100 000 people.

    In Belarus about 26.2 people commit suicide for every 100 000 people.

    Suicides are lowest among the Caribbean people, that is 0.8 suicides per 100 000 people

    Suicide rates are low in South Africa, Turkey and other Islamic countries and they are highest in Korea and they are very high in western countries.

    About 2 % Amercan deaths are due to suicide. Suicides are more in aged people above 65 years old than the suicides committed by young people. Suiciders invite death with full knowledge of the consequences. Suicide is a reaction given to stressful life.

    Suicide is a mental illness. Hence, the will of a man becomes sick before ending one’s life.

    Suicide is a selfish, cowardice and immoral act.

    Suicide is regarded by the terrorist as a noble duty. The supporters of suicides say that

    suicide as a basic right. Suicides are always wrong as our ethical duties to parent and society are destroyed by suicide. The rightness or wrongness of an act decided by the consequences. Every man is subordinate to society as the group struggle for existence is more important than the individual struggle for existence.

    Right to commit suicide was accepted by Stoics.

    Physician assisted suicides of terminally ill people has been legalized in many countries.

    Euthaasia(a painless killing of a person suffering from incurable disease) is regarded by many people as a right to die. Euthanasia is a help given to a dying person.

    A right to suicide is accepted by those who lend a helping hand in assisted suicide and a belief in voluntary euthanasia is accepted by the helpers. It is claimed that every man is the owner of his own body. Hinduism and Jainism accepted the right of every man to commit suicide. Hindus and Jains kill themselves by starvation to death. Japanese regard suicide as a method of atonement (expiation of sin). Man is always subordinate to society. Hence, society is the owner of the life and body of every man. Religions tell us that life was given to us by God and our physical bodies are a property of God. Only God has the right to take back his life given by him. Hence, all forms of suicides are immoral and irrational. Suicide can not be justified by the suicider or his family. The state is duty bound to prevent suicides.

    Suicide is a self-injury or self-harm done without any thoughts, reflection and it is an impulsive act.

    IMPULSIVITY

    Impulsivity is to act without thinking or forethought about the consequences. Impulsivity is poorly conceived, risky, inappropriate to the situation. Impulsivity includes excessive drinking and smoking. Impulsive buying and other acts generally causes a man to regret later on.

    Suicide is generally due to a mometary decision created by impulsivity.

    Suicide is the final end of life and there can be no change of decision. Suicide is always preventable. Impulsive decision to commit suicide is made due to mental illness and lack of full information.

    The suicider commits impulsive killing and he leaves everything behind. A stable decision can be made only after a long period of reflection of the pros and cons of suicides.

    Suicide is a self-inflicted death.

    Despair:- Suicide is done due to despair. A man becomes despair due to loss of hopes. During the state of despair a man feels that he can not improve the situation or conditions.

    Anger is an emotion created by a feeling of having been wronged and it produces a tendency to undo wrong doing by retaliation.

    Emotion is created by a strong feeling or excitement. Emotions produces mental and physical complex manifestations, as love, hate, fear, anger etc. An emotional person is quick to weep etc. During the state of emotions the reason or rational selse is absent and a man in moved by feelings and there is an absence of reasoning. Reasonis the best guide and it is like the walking stick of a blind man.

    Suicidal behaviour:- Suicidal behaviour is generally not directed to a complete suicide.

    Suicidal behaviour is created by self-destructive ideas. Suicidal behaviour is indicated by careless driving overdose, too much drinking etc.

    In a parasuicide the patient may deliberately make self-injury or cuts on his own physical body. Suicideation ideas ;- The patient suffers from suicidal thoughts and he has not worked out the actual details or plan of suicide.

    A suicidal attempt may fail. Death is created only by a compete suicide. A suicidal note may be left in a competed suicide.

    Copycat suicide is a duplication of the original suicide.

    Due to influence of cinema, T V or media people copy the original suicide committed by celibrite. It is a sin to incite other people to commit suicide Teen agers are more susceptoble to copy cat suicides. Doctors get constructive pleasure by saving their lives.

    Cult suicide is a mass murder suicide committed by the followers of a particular cult and the order to commit suicide is given by the leader of the cult.

    Psychiatrist is a person specialized in mental health problems.

    Psychotherapy is the treatment of mental disorders by psychological means rather than medical means. Psychotherapy includes depression therapy, child therapy and psychosomatic therapy etc.

    Familicide is type of suicide in which a spouse and one or more children are killed. Some men kill their children and other members of family before killing themselves.

    Suicide note (death note):- Suicides are done by suicide notes. Suicide note is a message that tells us about the causes of suicide etc.

    Suicide intervention is a direct intervention for stopping the suicider from committing suicide.

    The suiciders claim that man is the owner of his own life and body.

    The states are duty bound to prevent irrational suicides, that is suicides done due to impulsive decisions. Suicide a serious mental illness.

    Benevolence suicide (altruistic suicide) means the self-sacrifice of one’s own life for the sake of higher good.

    Reason to live:-

    1.  To do service to Nature:- Every man is duty bound to do service to Nature by a continuance of the human race and to improve the quality of his seed. We live for future generations. It is a sin to cause damage to seed by smoking, drinking etc. Nature wants reproduction and improvement by all living beings. All living beings are thrown into the world by Nature.

    2.  To do service to society:- Every individual is duty bound to carry forward the torch of civilization. Every individual is subordinate to society.

    3.  To do service to God by creating justice, moral purity, peace, truthfulness, altruism etc. God is justice. Justice is the supreme virtue of God. God is moral purity. God is altruism. God and Nature are at war with each other. Our physical bodies are fully under the control of Nature. Nature is good as well as evil.

    Human spirit is under the control of God and the human body is under the control of the causal laws of Nature. Man is a citizen of the world of phenomena and the world of noumena.

    Motive (reason) to commit suicides:- Generally the mative to commit suicide is get rid of incurable pain and other sufferings. The motive may be to show their anger. Sometime the reason of suicide is to take revenge on those who have done harms to the suicider.

    Murder suicide is created by killing of a man or more people before the suicider kills himself Mass suicides:- Mass suicides are committed by the order given the leader of the terrorists.

    Altruistic suicide are regarded as a method of self-sacrifice for the benefit of other members of society. It is claimed that the suicide bomber will bring victory to their people.

    Parasuicide is an apparent attempted suicide without actual intention to kill oneself.

    Psychological egoism says that people are always motivated by self-interest.

    Bullying is an act of deliberately harming and humiliating repeatedly those who are younger, weaker and smaller. There is a need of conducting Jihad or holy war against those who do the act of bullying.

    Stress is due to emotional and physical tension. Stress causes a man to become nervous, angry and frustrated.

    Acute stress disorder is a psychological condition created by a terrible event or traumatic event. Psychological trauma is a damage done to the psyche and it is created by some traumatic event. It can produce physical changes in the brain and it can lead to posttraumatic stress disorder.

    REBT(Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy):-It is a branch of cognitive behaviour therapy.

    It is a philosophically and empirically based therapy. The self-defeating thoughts are replaced by healthy feelings.

    Fetal alcohol syndrome can create cognitive and functional disabilities (loss of memory, impulsive behaviour etc).

    Self-harm is a deliberate injury to oneself and it is done due to depression.

    Envy is the feeling of discontentment or resentfulness and it is created by the possessions and qualities of other people. The person lacks the superior possessions or qualities of other people

    Drug overdose is the use of substances or drugs in quantities much more than prescribed by the physician.

    Benzodiazepine dependence is a health state created by becoming dependent on benzodiazepine.

    Melancholia is a mental state indicated by extreme depression.

    Self-esteem is a confidence in one’s own worth (self-worth), ability, value, self-respect etc.

    Self-esteem is indicated by pride in oneself. Due to self-esteem a man has a favorable impression of himself. Due to self-esteem a man feels himself as competent. Due to self-esteem people explore their full potential.

    Suicidal ideation deals with thinking or planning about suicide.

    The attempts made by the suicidal person may be successful attempts or unsuccessful attempts. Suicide attempt is made by a person to harm himself with an intention to kill himself, but sometimes he may fail in his attempt. An injury may or may not be created by attempted suicide. Attempted suicide by women are generally greater than attempts made by men.

    However, complete suicide by men are generally greater than by women.

    Suicide Pact is an aggrement between friends or strangers to commit suicide simultaneously.

    Completed suicide (successful suicides) is done by intentional self-killin.

    Suicide attempts are 20 times more than completed suicides.

    A concrete plan to suicidial thoughts is given by the desire to commit suicide and ability to commit suicide.

    Suicidality (suicidal thoughts)indicate that a man is lost is thoughts of committing suicide.

    Concept of suicidality means suicide is due to mental illness or mental distress.

    A suicidal person is one who thinks about killing himself.

    Suicide ideations are indicated to the external world by thoughts and plan about suicides. A man can get rid of suicidal thoughts by making prayers to God.

    Suicide among LGBT people is comparatively higher than in straight people.

    Chronic suicidal ideations are those thoughts of committing suicide which are created by chronic pain and sufferings.

    Social rejection is one of the cause that leads to suicide. Social rejection is created by not allowing an individual to have interpersonal relationships. Social rejection produces anxiety, depression, sadness and jealousy.

    Suicide intervention is done by by police, semi judicial body, friends, relatives etc.

    Suicide pact:- South Koreans are notorious for making suicidde pacts over internet.

    Suicide pact is an agreed plan between two or more individuals for committing suicide.

    Many timmes the intense pressure to succeed in school or work place is the main causeof committing suicide.

    Teenagers frequently suffer from suicidal thoughts, Impulsivity and fear of death and they generally live a full life. Suicide attempt may fail due e to a chance or ineffective method used for committing suicide. Suicide rate among people between 16 and 25 has risen significantly.

    Suicides are committed by many prisoners. The road to justice is blocked by suicide committed by the prime suspect.

    Suicide Ideations are suicidal thoughts or plan about suicide before the final act of suicide.

    Anhedonia is due to inability to feel pleasure in pleasurable activities

    Psychological trauma is a damage done to mind due to some distressing event.

    Shock:- is a stress disorder created by some traumatic and surprised event.

    Altruistic suicide indicates that the the interest of the group is above the self-interest.

    Egoistic suicide indicates that thesuicider is not a member of the society.

    Anomic suicide is kind of suicide committed by confused people and their act of suicide is not a goal directed act.

    Fatalistic suicides are committed by those people who are victims of oppression. The suicider is duty bound to conduct a holy war against the oppressor.

    WARNING SIGNS, ASSESSMENT

    AND SYMPTOMS OF SUICIDES

    Prediction of suicides is possible by an examination of mental state. Generally the suiciders suffer from hopelessness. The tendency to commit suicide is increased by anger, agitation, anxiety and fearfulness. Signals of suicide can be detected in advance by an observation of the suicidal behaviour. Suicidal thoughts are indicated by excessive sadness, moodiness, headache, fatigue, belly pain, dizziness, loss of weight etc.__ The patient becomes depressed and withdrawn. Reckless driving and other activities are shown by the patient. Suicides can be predicted by mind reading. A sudden and big change in mood or behaviour is an idicator of suicide. The suiciders neglect their personal needs. They do not take food and medicine properly and their condition is indicated by their sadness.

    The suiciders express their will to kill themselves. They frequently say: I would be better to become dead as my family will be better after my death.

    We should create in them the purpose and reason to live. They should be lost in social activities. The suiciders can help schools, hospitals and religious places.

    Hence, it is necessary to prevent depression in the initial stage. Suicide is a social problem.

    Stress and social isolation are main causes peopleto commit suicide.

    Men depend on their wives for their maintenance and social contact and a loss of wife also lead to suicide.

    Due to psychological distress the patient shows a dramatic mood swing Generally old people suffer from mood disorder that is, high spirit one day and deep disappointment the next day.

    Mood disorder is created by an unhealthy emotional state.

    The mood of a man is disturbed by a combination of various conditions. Mood disorder is created by all types of depression and bipolar disorder. The suicider shows self-harm behaviour, aggressive behaviour, feeling of failure etc.

    Suicide is committed during the darkest moment of life. The suicider feels like a burden on other people.

    It is good to remove fire arm or sharp object which can be used for committing suicide.

    The suicider is anxious, agitated, shows reckless behaviour and he uses too much alcohol or drugs.

    He thinks about the methods if jumping from a high building.

    The suiciders stop taking care of themselves. The patient abstains from self-care and other activities.

    The suicider abstain from social connection, that is from friends, family members and it is good a good sign that person is planning to commit suicide.

    The suicider suffers from inability to feel pleasure in pleasurable activities which were previously enjoyed by him.

    He suffers from insomnia (oversleeping), overeating, loss of hunger etc.

    Suicidal thoughts are generally indicated by comorbod (existing simultaneously). Suicidal thoughts are indicated by making a will or the final arrangement or preparation.

    The suicider tells his plan to a friend and he talks about his intention to commit suicide.

    The suicider shows self-destructive or self-injurious, reckless and impulsive behaviour.

    He can be identified by self-mutilation and self-induced injuries on his body.

    The suicider seeks mutilation due to emotional pain and blood flows out of the body. The loss of blood is regarded by them as good.

    Suiciders can be detected by their losing interest in school or work places.

    They can be detected by their collection of a large number of sleeping pills or by purchasing a gun by them.

    They can be identified by their withdrawal from friends, society that is by social withdrawal and by their throwing possessions. They are easily agitated and show anger and talking about taking revenge They suffer from sleeping problems or insomnia (over sleeping).

    They show symptoms like weight loss, too much fatigue, loss of appetites, feeling of disappointment etc,

    After the failure of the1st attemp the patient is going ahead with a new or next attemtto commit suicide. Suicidal behaviour is indicated by loneliness, helplessness, remaining alone, and hopelessness, too talkative, etc. Generally the suiciders suffer from a feeling of tiresomeness. From the previous attempts made by the suiciders we can easily calculate their hidden future tendencies. During the night the suiciders feel everything is good and during the day things become reversed with increased consumption of drugs and alcohol.

    Excessive consumption of alcohol and drug leads to suicide. Reckless behaviour is indicated by risky driving, unsafe sex etc. The suicidal people can be identified by their shouting, fighting, impulsiveness etc. Sometime they write about suicide. They show disrespect for the law.

    Destructive behaviour like driving recklessly is also a sign of suicidal ideas. The suicidal thoughts cause a man to say goodbye to other people in a peculiar style.

    The aim of psychotherapy is to create in them new hopes and inspirations.

    The suicidal person feels himself rejected and also discriminated against.

    They suffer from suicidal thoughts and from feelings of guilt, sadness, anxiety, depression, stress, loss of self-esteem, helplessness and hopelessness. Suicide is a way of cowards.

    Nature has gifted all living beings with an instinct of self preservation.

    Nature has created pets with an aim to save people from suicides and loneliness.

    RISK FACTORS

    Anxiety is due to stress. Anxiety is created by the uncertainty of future events. Concentration is destroyed by anxiety. Fear and restlessness are created by anxiety.

    Despair (loss of hope)

    Despair is a mental disorder.

    The state of despair leads to depression and depression leads to suicide by making use of drugs, alcohol Despair leads to Bipolar, schizophrenia. etc. Despair causes a man to become pessimistic and discouraged. Despair (loss of hope or confidence) is due to weakness of character The patient himself is responsible for becoming despair.

    Desperation, distress, anguish and pain lead to despair.

    A man may be plunged into despair after divorce is given to him by his wife. Only disheartened people say that everything is wrong.

    A solution always exists for every cause of hopelessness. Hopelessness can always be changed and the situation can always be improved. A hopeless situation can be changed with the help of a good adviser or man of high intelligence. A man of low intelligence can always solve his problems by copying the examples of men of high intelligence.

    Mohammed said: Allah will find a better wife than the previous wife.

    Despair may be due to financial problems.

    A better job and a good financial situation can always be obtained after the loss of 1st job.

    The Book of science or Nature has a solution to every problem.

    Dewey said that with the help of new information a man can find a solution of a hopeless situation

    Every incurable disease is being made curable by medical science.

    Money is the root cause of all evils.

    Life is holy and suicide is a crime against God.

    All religions want to save people from self-destructive behaviour.

    Bhagavd Gita says that a man should remain even minded during the gain or loss, victory and defeat, loss and gain.

    Who is to blame for despair ?

    Character building the chief aim of education. A protection against becoming despair can be easily created by the teachers of schools and gurus. What goes inside during childhood has got a permanent lasting effect.
