Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow: An Anthology of Poetry
Author

David James Watt

David James Watt is a 48 year old Canadian author from the greater Toronto area. This anthology of poetry is his second published work. From 2015 until 2017 David attended college for the first time to pursue a change of career. It was this academic experience that reinvigorated David’s passion for creative writing and his life. David’s poems are often described as songs without music. Themes of love, spirituality and existence flow elegantly while being explored. While writing these poems from 2009 until 2020, David found the strength to completely tear down his life and start all over again on more than one occasion. It is David’s hope that his path of self discovery to happiness will meaningfully speak to every one of his readers.

Change is coming whether you like it or not and it’s how you respond to life’s challenges of change that defines who you are. Do you have the courage to move forward, to grow and to become the person you were destined to be? Or are you going to hide from life and live in regret?

    DEEPER

    You’re the one I see,

when the sunshine sparkles across the sky.

    You’re the one I see,

when I hear that song and close my eyes.

Your passion flows right through me,

the incredible thrills and all the desires.

You’ve unlocked a key inside my heart,

a muse that finally sets my world on fire.

    You’re the one I feel,

when I reach out from the darkness of the night.

    You’re the one I feel,

when I walk into the great glory of all the light.

I’m dancing inside all of your talents,

the amazing notes of love and loss.

There’s not enough time or even the words,

to deliver my message of hope across.

    You’re the one I want,

when I’m lost and spiralling out of control.

    You’re the one I want,

to fill this void and make me whole.

    DECADE

As I stand here inside my reflection,

I know exactly what I’ve done.

There was nobody who tried to help me,

there was just you, you’re the only one.

Your beauty has inspired me darling,

when I witnessed joy inside your heart.

And you helped me to accept who I am,

changed my direction to a brand new start.

So I wish your spirit to be sustainable,

I want you to fulfil your life’s destiny.

I can’t stand hearing you say these things,

sweetheart you’re your own worst enemy.

Oh please give yourself some credit,

for not one of has chosen to be born.

It’s not your fault that life is so ordinary,

and I hope someday you will finally learn.

That you are someone else inside my arms,

and I have shown you an incredible way.

Under the right circumstances you will flourish,

to discover a light for the darkest of days.

What makes us so very different,

at these points in our life’s journey.

    Positive choices create positive outcomes,

my love you are wonderful and you are worthy.

    So please accept my invitation,

to a life where you will always be free.

Yes it’s a difficult road through many a tear,

but along the way you will always find me.

    PROMISE YOU EVERY TOMORROW

Oh I’m broken and I’m hurt,

    I’m scarred down deep inside.

So when you say you love me,

I want to run away and hide.

But I’m here and I am listening,

I want you to depend on me.

You are worth all my efforts,

I hope one day that you’ll be free.

Oh I want you to understand,

it’s just so hard for me to believe.

Why should I ever truly trust in,

that you’re never going to leave?

But I’m not like all the others,

and I promise to never lie.

I only want to be with you,

please I don’t want you to cry.

Oh I wish it was so easy,
