About this ebook
Evelyn Burgess
My name is Evelyn Burgess and I have been writing poems for years. It is my therapy to help deal with the problems I was experiencing. This helped me to get it all out because dealing with Therapist and Psychologist never helped me. A childhood without a mother, being raped, an abusive relationship, a near death experience, and many attempts at suicide. I have experienced all of these without anyone knowing. I kept a smile on my face and my mouth closed for years. I thought I had to be strong and push it all aside. But I was dying inside. I turned to music, meditation and then God. I’m not completely healed but with God’s Grace I am making strides to happiness. I decided to share this with everyone but especially those feeling overwhelmed by internal emptiness and those who may not understand. Please know that someone somewhere is experiencing the same things that you are. You are not alone and never give up on yourself.

DIVIDED KIDS
Separated as small kids
We grew apart
Causing so much pain
That filled our hearts
So many problems
Came from that division
A different outcome
We always envisioned
Now we are broken
Trying to find our way
But we sadly remain lost
Until this day
I’m praying for us
Wishing for the best
Starting with peace and love
Then our minds can rest
LEFT BEHIND
How do you leave
Your children behind
That kind of parent
Was out of their mind
You weren’t clearly thinking
About either child
You chose your friends
You chose to be wild
The children got hurt
And you were not there
They didn’t ask to be here
Their lives so unfair
You were happy
Was it all worth it
Their lives were hell
Well most of it
SHE WAS BROKEN
She was broken from the start
Because her parents weren’t there
She grew up feeling empty
And believing no one cared
She had children of her own
Thinking that would fill the void
But she still had highs and lows
Emotions like a rollercoaster always annoyed
Relationships never lasted
She pushed everyone away
Having severe trust issues
Until this very day
Just wanting some happiness
And a future that was bright
Needing time and patience
And her life to be alright
LITTLE GIRL LOST
She grew up fast having a short childhood
So many emotions that were never understood
No one showed affection and she felt so alone
Everything she knew was learned on her own
She accepted all attention because of the emptiness inside
Wanting a real man whom she would stand beside
Life gave her nothing but she had lots of love to give
The only real love she felt was from her own kids
She finally realized she would never find
The comfort she had been seeking all this time
It should have been given to her from the start
And it never was so her life had fallen apart
MOTHER
Memories of her mother
Were wigs, heels and lipstick
And wondering why
Why hasn’t she come to get me yet
Other moms at the school
They would always come
To be normal like other kids
The heart always yearned
Every
