    The Laundry Lady the Song

    By

    Dr. Anis I. Milad

She used to come to wash our clothes

To clean the house and speak in prose

I felt and saw her peace of mind

She was a farmer, calm and kind

She missed the south, its harmless heat,

She said it makes her so complete

She left the farm and land she had

To see the city’s homes and fads

She was the woman she was then

In black and white and shy of men

She loved to sit and talk to us

Her laughter was to all a plus

Her sadness also was so deep

Because she left her cow and sheep

She left her home the only home

And missed the river’s splash and foam

I loved to look at her and pray

To be my angel and to stay

I loved to look at her and pray

To be my angel and to stay

    To Live Our Dreams

    By

    Dr. Anis I. Milad

It is the time to leave

Our home to live our dreams

    Above the clouds we’ll be

    Again we are to climb

    The mountains days and nights

    To seek the endless light

Our dreams to seek our God

To hear His Words, our hearts

    And the future we sight

Our world is not this world

It is not measured by gold

    The Spirit’s world we hold

It is the time to leave

    To grow without our fear

To pray and wipe our tears

It is the time to leave

Our home to live our dreams

    Above the clouds we’ll be

    The People

    By

    Dr. Anis I. Milad

The people’s heart had sunk in fear

The tyrant once had made it clear

They had to die to wash his shame

And to be forced to praise his name

A loosing war had made him mad

They were in shock, dismayed, and sad

    His overwhelming harm was deep

So deep they could not cry or weep

The world was watching counting years

And they were bleeding pain and tears

They had no arms to fight or will

They were so stressed, confused, and ill

They prayed and fought, they took a chance

To end this tyrant’s ill romance

He had been kicked and overthrown

They had to make their conscience known

    The Buckle

    By

    Dr. Anis I. Milad

    The buckle slashed my back

    It was a cruel thwack

    I was a soldier then

I asked no why or when

    I was prepared to die

For those who aimed so high

    I lived
