INTRODUCTION
As a kid, I was an avid reader. I probably read every commando comic book ever written and every story series like the Famous Five by Enid Blyton. That love helped me tremendously as a medical student in Nigeria, West Africa. Lacking in audiovisual aids for learning, the average medical student depended exclusively on textbooks and imagination to grasp the concepts of medicine and surgery. I read excellent cornerstone books like Guyton’s Physiology, Bailey and Love’s Short Practice of Surgery, and Gray’s Anatomy, which for so many years was a textbook to me and not a TV show.
I always knew I wanted to write, but I neither knew a topic or even where to begin. For years, my wife would tell me that one day, my name would be on book covers that would be read all over the world. I’d say, Okay, yeah.
All the while, I was thinking, You just don’t have the time to write."
After all, I had a busy medical practice, my wife and I were the senior pastors at Living Water Ministries International, and we had a young, growing family. With ministry, family, and running a busy medical practice, I had no time to write.
About four years ago, we structured our ministry commitments. It had become apparent that we could no longer devote the time to a full-time ministry and still meet our other obligations. This was a particularly difficult time for me since I felt like I would not be fulfilling my call without a pulpit. This is also a significant juncture to encourage anyone reading this who also thinks that God only works in one dimension to arise and see that he is a multidimensional God.
I began to realize that Paul, the man credited for writing two-thirds of the New Testament, probably spent less than his entire ministry life in traditional pulpit ministry. On the contrary, he spent a lot of his time incarcerated, which allowed him the opportunity to sit down and write.
If Paul merely crisscrossed the nation preaching face-to-face to believers, it would be unlikely that he would have written anything, thereby limiting his impact and legacy to the few thousands who may have attended his meetings rather than the countless billions that have been touched by his writings and letters to the churches.
I now know that this book and the series to follow will reach many future generations.
In my early walk with God, as a second-year medical student, the one book I credit with changing my life and strengthening my faith was written by Pastor Benny Hinn. I opened up Good Morning, Holy Spirit one evening, and I didn’t close it until I finished the last word. I read the book in one night. I pray that Our Daily Pill will be such an experience in your
