Scripture quotations marked KJV are from the Holy Bible, King James Version (Authorized Version). First published in 1611. Quoted from the KJV Classic Reference Bible, Copyright © 1983 by The Zondervan Corporation.

The KJV does not have quotation marks because the Hebrew and Greek do not have quotation marks. If a reader has trouble discerning who the speaker is in the KJV, most likely even professional Bible translators have trouble discerning who the speaker is in the same passage. The absence of quotation marks allows the reader to interpret the passage without being swayed by editorial guesses. Moreover, biblical writers did not always directly quote speeches. Quotation marks can give the wrong idea that whatever words that are enclosed in quotation marks are direct quotes.

Our Forefathers Were Dedicated To Christian Education

Our forefathers came to America against the backdrop of tyranny. They had experienced a monarchy who wanted to keep them ignorant of what the Bible actually taught. The priest was the only one who was allowed to have a Bible and he then gave church goers his interpretations.

It wasn’t until the Geneva Bible was printed that the people first heard the true Word of God. The Gospel literally exploded in England when the people had their very own Bible to read. Enraged, the monarchy threatened all Christians with death. Many of their friends and neighbors were jailed or killed. Children often stood guard over church meetings while others read their Bible by candlelight

In the light of these experiences they came to believe that their lives were less valuable than the freedom to worship God. It was then that they decided to risk their lives crossing the fierce Atlantic Ocean to be free in America. Although most of them realized that there was a good chance that they would not reach the shores of America…they passionately believed in Heaven and wanted their children to have the freedom to worship God.

When they arrived in America all they could see in the darkness was a desolate shoreline and trees. There were no lights in windows or fires in the hearth of homes. There was no welcoming party…just emptiness. There were years of hardship and danger…. but the Pilgrims stubbornly established their lives in America.

One of the great successes of the Pilgrims was the way they viewed Christian Education. It became one of their strong goals to educate all followers in God’s Word. Their children learned the significance of words as soon as they could talk—even though parents realized
