Preface
riting a book has been a dream of mine for a few years now, and I wanted the ability to talk to my readers from a common-sense standpoint that is often lost in the loud world we live in today. I wanted to share some insights I have gained through my research of the Bible. Although I never intend to indoctrinate anyone, I have a history of taking everyone out of their comfortable boxes whenever I preach and teach. I like to encourage people to question their selves so they are drawn to look into essential matters independently and challenge their long-held beliefs.
When I first started writing this book, I did a lot of research on how a book should be written. One of the recommendations that I read was to use your own voice. What this means is not to try to be someone you’re not. So, I really took this to heart and tried to use my own voice, and I feel this book illustrates that perfectly. I am quite humorous in my speaking (or I think I am), and sometimes I come across as sarcastic in a humorous way. I never mean to offend anyone, but this is the only way I know how to get my point across. I wanted to write it in a way so the reader can get to know me a little.
Secondly, I learned that you are supposed to show some of your weaknesses so I can be more relatable to readers. I surely didn’t have a problem in this area because I have a track record, believe me.
The important thing to remember about this book is that it doesn’t matter what I believe in my interpretations of scripture, so don’t be looking for someone who believes down the line with you, because this is a book about our differences. It’s about our differences while finding unity in the Salvation that we share,
I hope that you find value in reading this book and come away with a lighter feel for your walk with Christ. I really hope you enjoy it.

Introduction
H
ave you ever wondered why Christianity can be so confusing at times? Well, you’re not alone; most Christians find their selves in that same boat. It’s not that the actual teachings are difficult, but it seems like everyone disagrees on doctrine, and no one will ever say what is and what is not a sin.
My father and grandfather were lifelong Pastors. And, when I say Pastors, I mean good ole southern Pentecostal Pastors of days gone past. Boy, did I enjoy hearing my dad and grandfather preach? They were the best at what they did. But what is it that they did? They preached the dos and the don’ts until they were blue in the face.
My dad was a 6’2" and 350lb man who could really get with it on stage. He would preach until this white stuff started coming out of his mouth. And one thing for sure was, by the time he got done, everyone felt like they were going to hell. I’m serious; he would preach out of the Old Testament and New Testament alike, never providing the context behind either. I would be convinced that if I messed up in the smallest area, then I was bound for a devil’s hell, and I was going to do some gnashing of teeth. The problem was he never explained what was required to get you into heaven and what parts were from his personal interpretations of other things.
And here lies the problem for most of us Christians; we were never told what parts are relevant to us now and which parts are Critical. And while the entire Bible is useful, I don’t care about a Jew who couldn’t eat shrimp because he was living by a covenant that was not offered to me and has already been fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
This book will take the religion that has crippled the church and throw it out of the window. People outside of the church have got to a point where they are glad that they are not on the inside because Christians are always so miserable. Religion has been a technique by many churches today to control its people and strangle them until they can’t breathe. Well, look out, world, I’m ushering in a neat little concept called Freedom from Religion. I’m sorry, church leaders, Jesus doesn’t come with hard-to-understand operating instructions. He is ours for the asking.
So, this book will clear the weeds for all of us and explain just how simple Salvation really is. It will provide you with the answers that you may have never heard before. So, buckle up and get ready for the light to come on as we shine that light on those things that actually get us into heaven together, and talk about those doctrines that don’t.

A Young Marcus

t was on the 19th of July in 1971 that a little fat baby was born in Lake City, Florida. At that time, my father was the pastor at the Church of God in Dowling Park, Fl., and Lake City was the nearest hospital (and civilization), and it was about 40 miles away. My father had grown up as a Church
