T iff, Tiff; Wake up, wake up now. Tiff rolled over and looked inquiringly at the human Angel. What do you want so early in the morning? I was having such a wonderful dream; I had a large bone and I was lying in cool green grass besides a bubbling brook while I enjoyed the delicious marrow. St. Peter wants to see you in his office right now. Oh, all right. Tell him I’ll be there shortly." Tiff stretched and scratched her ear. I wonder what he wants. I haven’t done anything bad- at least that I’m aware of. Besides that, there is generally no punishment in Heaven.

Tiff lived in a small room all to herself. It was just on the other side of the palace kitchen and she had lived there ever since St. Peter found out that her breed, Lhasa Apsos were the palace guard dogs for the Tibetian Monks. They were her ancestors, of course, and if he wanted her there who was she to complain. After all, she loved the convenience and largess of the palace kitchen. The cook continually pampered her with specially baked goodies. She had the run of the palace and since she had earned her wings, Tiff was sort of the official mascot. All of the other dogs in heaven stayed outside.

On her way to St. Peter’s office which was on the far side of the palace’s first floor, Tiff reminisced about her past life on earth and her human parents, Puddin and Bobby. It was hard to realize, but it had been almost 10 years since she had finished her earthly life and was accepted into Heaven. As she had so often heard Puddin say-my how time flies, especially when you are having fun and she had certainly enjoyed her time in Heaven. It took her two years to earn her wings, but most of the Angels said that was actually fast especially for a dog. It seemed that assignments which achieved points toward wing awarding were few and far between for animals. Once an animal or a human had his or her wings, then they could take an earthly assignment as a Guardian Angel. Tiff had already had a number of those and had completed everyone in a satisfactory fashion.

Well here she was in front of St. Peter’s office door. She took a deep breath and thought, I might as well see what he wants. She gave a light scratch on the door and a deep voice boomed, That you Tiff?, come in Her bark of inquiry stimulated St. Peter to say Yes Tiff, I wanted to see you and discuss a very sensitive earthly assignment and see if you were willing to accept it. It seems that one of your breed, a Lhasa Apso, was in a great deal of trouble about two years ago. The problem came to our attention because the accident, that almost caused her death, made her a candidate for heavenly acceptance. While we were actively evaluating her life on earth, like we did yours, she made a miraculous recovery. She is now about 3 years old. It has been a year since her accident which broke her pelvis and punctured one of her lungs. Before the accident she was a show dog and was ranked quite high in the US. Since she has completed her rehab, amazingly, she has gotten back into the show ring. She has done so well that she has been nominated for competition in The All American Dog Show. With all this, there is a potential problem. Sometimes she gets so nervous when the judge touches her that she shakes and trembles. This has caused her to be downgraded. When she doesn’t tremble, she wins almost every-time. I would like for you, if you accept the assignment, to research the whole problem and see if you, as a Guardian Angel, can determine how you might help her get through the All American. I’m told that she is so good, that she stands a chance of winning best in show-if she can overcome her problem. What do you think? Are you up to it? Tiff wagged her tail and thought, my what a daunting but challenging assignment. Tiff indicated that she would look into the feasibility and let St Peter know in a few days. " Mind you, we haven’t much time. It’s the first part of January
