    Chapter One - Philip and his Dog

    When Philip woke up that morning he was lying on his back. He felt the weight of something heavy on his chest. He opened his eyes to see his dog Bandit lying on top of him. This was unusual, but not unfamiliar. When Bandit was a puppy he would often somehow manage to get up on Philip's bed and make his place on top of Philip. Bandit was an adult dog now and had not slept on Philip in years. Philip quickly realized how much his dog had grown.

    Both dog and owner turned their heads at that moment when they heard a door slam. In the hallway they could hear the grumpy complaining of Mr. Turner, Philip's father. Bandit jumped off of Philip and slipped under the bed. At the same time Mr. Turner stuck his head inside Philip's bedroom.

    Where are all my tools son? he asked. How am I supposed to fix anything when you've lost all my tools? Philip didn't know if he should speak, but he did anyway. What tools dad?

    Philip always called his father 'dad' to his face. Otherwise he referred to his father as Mr. Turner. He didn't do
