CHAPTER 1
Your life doesn’t have to suck!
Before you read this book, you may want to check with your Mommy or Daddy, and your medical doctor, your lawyer, all of your friends, maybe you should write your favorite politician, call your priest, rabbi, your psychic, your mother- in- law and anyone else that you consider smarter than yourself for permission to read these thoughts, which are contained in these chapters. I tell you this only because that’s what I used to think. Let me explain.
Everything we see, every item ever made was created to solve problems. Why do people get married? Because they need to solve a problem! Dentists solve teeth problems, plumbers solve water problems, eye doctors solve sight problems and tow truck drivers solve problems too! We buy chairs because we have a problem to solve. We need people to help us solve our problems. Lawyers solve legal problems, foot doctors solve medical foot problems, our trash man solves problems.
You own your own problems and your decisions, and you create your own circumstances and resolutions. Wisdom is the principle thing here. If you want to succeed, and be happy, stop looking to others for solutions or permission. Instead, look within. Remember that when you do hire somebody to assist you with a problem, they do not own the issue; you requested their help. You pay people to solve problems for you. Like I said before, you really don’t need permission from your Mommy or Daddy to solve the problems in your life!
Silly is a Latin word for Blessed.
However, I have come to realize that today, we need permission to do anything and everything, from somebody! We are told that the USA is a free country
and yet, we seemingly need permission now to ride on a road with our car or bicycle and we most certainly are fined if we don’t wear our helmet! We need numerous permits to operate a business, we are forced by law to have insurance for just about everything; and if we fail to do so, we pay the consequences and possibly are put into jail! We must pay taxes every year on property and possessions that we already paid taxes on last year or before or when we initially purchased the stuff to begin with!
I could go on forever with other examples of what I am talking about, but I must be careful not to complain too much because I have learned that although we have freedom of speech, we still must be careful of everything that we say. Considering all these things that I just mentioned, if you let them, they can really cause your life to suck; but, only if you let them. And, if you do let these things bother you, your life will indeed be miserable. What I have learned over the years is that it surely does matter how you deal with your problems. I’m going to share with you now, exactly what I mean by this.
To start with, here’s one example. Daily, as an educator, I converse with many people who share their problems with me and discuss with me why they are having difficulty managing their lives. As my dad always used to say, Misery loves company!
Here we go!
The average child laughs about 400 times per day.
Now, I’m not a licensed counselor, and I wouldn’t want to be! But, my guess is that in general, because people are so willing to share their individual distress, they are confirming that misery does indeed love company. As I see it, many of the individuals that I am referring to are attempting to get me to consult with them for a reason. They are looking for me to relate to their problems, and possibly sympathize and even confirm that it’s okay to have problems. I’m guilty of this myself! Most of the people that I am referring to are constantly analyzing, predicting or making plans for their future, while others are merely trying to get by, one day at a time. I have found that basically, while some people are attempting to look at the overall picture, others are merely just trying to get through the day. What all of us have in common is at least we are thinking! That is good! However, I have determined that there is one common negative thread within the underlying theme of our conversations. We are not trained properly to handle many of the problems that come our way as our lives progress. A friend of mine insists, that in her opinion, any negativity is since people of our present day seemingly lack acceptable moral values. She goes on to tell me that everybody wants a free ride.
For example, Kids just don’t seem to work for their rewards
, is one of her clichés. They want everything for free!
She suggests.
The average adult laughs about 25 times per day.
There are exceptions to what I’m saying here. However, like I mentioned before, I have found that there is one common unkown factor within the lives of mostly every person, not just the young people that I speak with daily. This one aspect that most of the people seemingly question about themselves has to do with their individual personal perception of their own existence. In general, that question is: Why does my life suck?
100 - 200 laughs equal 20 minutes of jogging.
There are numerous variations to the question, Why does my life suck?
But, as I just mentioned above, genuinely the basic question which arises from the brow of most people who I communicate with these days again is: Why does my life suck; really?" For many folks, one issue is that they seemingly don’t respect life itself! Think about it. Do you spend more time planning your weekend than you do your future? When I was recently injured, I believed that I could be healed. The body heals itself, right? That’s what I always have been told! Religion tells us to live life to its fullest, and if you mess up, don’t worry, you will be healed! Hence: people seemingly respect healing, as I see it, but do not appreciate the things that we take for granted in our lives. You don’t have a headache because you are aspirin deprived!
Consequently, just because many people think that their life sucks, doesn’t mean that it necessarily does. What is true is that many people make the mistake of comparing their lives to the lives of others. And, in doing so, they are seemingly wishing that they had what others have, instead of appreciating their own lives. Recent research indicates that this comes from watching too much television, and / or our influence from Hollywood movies. As I see it, what you respect is what you will become. If you tell yourself that you can live without something, then you believe that you really don’t need it. Once, I had it in my mind, for example, that I needed to have a Corvette and after I got one, I realized that was a huge mistake. It wasn’t for me. Have you ever seen a person with a 1969 Corvette broke down on the side of the road with one headlight up and the other down? Would you think that person’s life sucks? Have you ever been put in the position to tell your grandma that you didn’t have enough room for both her and her begonia plant, and her grocery bags and she would need to wait here in the parking lot and you’d be right back for her? Do think that may cause your life to suck? Sorry Granny, I don’t have room for you and your groceries!
What you respect is what you will become.
As I observe more and more how people act towards each other and how people in general treat their friends and family, not to mention mere acquaintances, I can observe consequently that it is no wonder many people have the perception that their life sucks. Here’s why: The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
For over 35 years, employed as an educator, I have presented numerous workshops, and taught countless hours of classes. Always, I have tried immensely to communicate from my own experiences. And too, my intent was to share the curriculum at hand as contracted to do, but also utilize my personal insights and experiences as teaching tools. I mention often that I consider myself to be more of an innovator than a rebel. Moreover, by doing this, my goal is always to help others find the knowledge and experiences within themselves, and indeed utilize these valued possessions as masterful instruments of communication. Keeping this in mind, as you may realize, my intent with these actual words you are reading now are to help you, the reader, to identify with my thoughts. Again, I am speaking here merely from personal experience, rather than going to some library and researching other being’s thoughts and research and rewording them into a manuscript. Throughout this book, although I will refer to a quote or mention perceptions of others’ thoughts, I will otherwise be speaking from my own observations and sharing only my own opinions.
Here’s some good news. Your life doesn’t have to suck! Yes, I do believe that life can be good! For example, I know a priest who talks about Heaven & Hell. He claims that your life can be a living Hell if you let it. Or, it can be a nice place if that’s what we desire. Consider this, the concept of Heaven and Hell. Could this concept be simply a state of mind? Could this be true? Well, it has been said that if you can even perceive a concept, then it may be true for you.
You are what you think about.
Let me ask you this? If you do indeed believe in a Heaven and a Hell concept, then there must also be a God and a Devil to go with it. Are you following me? People ask me all the time, Do you believe in God?
And my answer, now is, Why would I deny Him?
Think about it. From all the years of religious education that I have obtained, it is clearly observable that there must be a higher being than myself! For example, I surely did not create the universe! Did you create the universe? I guess someone did! Let’s call him God! Or, maybe it just happened by magic. Nobody really knows, do they?
Also, according to some preachers, God’s word,
claims we will be punished if we do not accept Him. So, why deny it? What would be the benefit? The evolution theory offers me no rewards that I’m aware of.
Consider this, even the Devil believes in God. He just chooses to defy Him. Consequently, that could be one reason why the Devil is a big jerk! And if you go to Hell, to hang out with the devil, your life will probably suck! I wish you the best of luck regarding this matter. My biggest fear is, when I think of spending time in Hell, isn’t that raging fires and the humidity will get me; heck, I live in Texas! My fear about living in Hell, is that I will be forced to spend eternity with all the stupid people whose lives sucked when they were on Earth and there is no exit door of escape!
Make your own decisions. Believe what you want. Make your own choices, accept the
