About this ebook

Who’s Who in Chihuahuas Now is the current volume of the breeders and their lines impacting the well-bred Chihuahuas of today. Trace the beginnings of these kennels from their foundation dogs to their current stars. The pictorial history follows the progress and development of the dog who has won hearts and minds across borders and cultures and who lives in apartments and mansions. Meet breeders from the New World and the Old who have given their lives, hearts, and fortunes to raising and showing Chihuahuas.

This is the story of breeders who seek to improve the breed by reaching for the perfection outlined in the official standard of the Chihuahua Club of America and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

Who’s Who in Chihuahuas Now is a volume you will want to share with your friends and family who also love the tiniest breed of dogs.

Mother purchased a Chihuahua for me in 1955 when I was eight years old. I grew up with little Toy, and that was my start in Chihuahuas.

In 1987, my daughter, Michele, had chronic asthma. She was under a doctor’s care twice a week with injections. He was a well-known pediatric specialist. Dr. Tess Gordon told me to purchase a Chihuahua and have Michele sleep with the fur baby. Michele had her last injection three months later.

I purchased my first show baby in 2001 but did not begin showing until 2009. My line took an extreme turn to excellence in 2016 with the purchase of Dazzle Young Man. Now he is a finished champion with three litters of babies and finished champions and grand champions. God is good all the time.

Thank you, Donna Jensen, for new beginnings and for your trust in us to carry on your lines and for your kind friendship. We, Craig and Belinda McCormick, are honored.

Our vision was and continues to be to consistently breed Chihuahuas that follow the Chihuahua Club of America’s breed standards of preferred characteristics for each variety. Our efforts are focused on striving for consistent physical, temperamental, and health perfection in each carefully chosen and researched breeding. We are constantly in pursuit of perfection and breed to the highest standards. We do not support volume breeding and hoping for the best. As a result, we have one to three planned litters per year (sometimes less) and place prospects that we don’t keep for ourselves in carefully selected homes.

When starting out, we spent, and continue to spend, many hours on each show watching our breed as well as others. We particularly focus on observing professional handlers, studying how they present their dogs (handling and grooming) as well as general ring mechanics. We keep notes on judges—noting their ring mechanics, examination methods, overall interaction with handlers—and we discuss in any particular types of preferences. We strive to talk to people who stand out to us during these observations. We consider ringside observation as our dog show school time.

Our motto is Always in pursuit of perfection. That includes not only the selection and breeding of our dogs to the preferred breed standard but also in our efforts to improve our knowledge, understanding, and skills of canine anatomy, grooming, and presentation and the rules and guidelines that govern our sport. That also means working to support our sport of purebred dogs through membership and involvement with breed and all-breed dog organizations/clubs.

To those starting out, determine what your goals are for showing and raising Chihuahuas (any breed). Do you want a dog to show at local shows a few times a year or a champion and have the resources to show extensively or something in between? Ask questions and listen! Look in dog publications to see who is showing top-ranked dogs (in any breed) and watch them at work both in the ring and at their grooming setup at the shows you go to. Learn the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club, your locality, and the state related to the breeding and keeping of dogs and to your breed’s parent club standards.
