Conclusion
Author’s Note
Authors are often asked why they have written a certain book. It’s a very common question but one with answers so different they have to be explained. About two years ago, I found myself almost obsessed with watching the Food Network channel. I would even DVR my favorite shows so as not to miss any segments.
Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay, The Pioneer Woman, Grocery Games, and Cutthroat Kitchen were among my favorites. Now the odd thing about this is that I could not cook. No matter how hard I tried, many recipes seemed to be scientific experiments that went awry. My good friend Todd, who lives in Texas, jokingly told me that my husband probably knows supper is done when the smoke alarm goes off the second time. (Little did he know this has happened more than once.)
I am the middle child of three sisters, and both my younger and older siblings are extremely accomplished cooks. For me, I was and still am a child of nature. For the past several months, as I was preparing for this book project, I cannot tell you how many people looked at me with a sense of bewilderment, and even before the words came out of their mouths, I would say, I know—why am I writing a cookbook since I can’t cook?
And there’s the answer!
