"Is not this the carpenter?….." Mark 6:3 KJV

As we read the scriptures, we understand that it is God’s nature to create. In fact, one of the many names that we know Him is Elohim which means Judge or Creator in the Hebrew language. So, it is no surprise that when our Savior came to earth, His profession would be a carpenter. The carpenter desires to build, frame, construct or repair wooden things. If you were to interview a Carpenter and asked him why he chose that profession, most would tell you it was because they wanted to create unique and beautiful things. They get great joy and pleasure out of knowing they have helped someone build a home or furnish the house. Some carpenters like to take old doors, furniture or scraps of wood and rebuild or remodel them to look new. They scrape away all the old paint or stain, and if the wood has any flaws, broken or rough edges then they repair those flaws, mend the broken pieces and smooth out the sharp edges. A carpenter would tell you that during the restoration process, you must take the wood back to its original form. You must strip away all old products that have been worn away or painted over several times to give it the appearance of being restored in order to see the true wood grain. Sometimes the wood has been stained or discolored, and you must sand away a layer to get down to the good wood grain. The restoration process can be very lengthy and tedious, but the outcome is well worth it. Many times, you see the before, and after picture, you can barely believe it’s the same piece of wood. It takes patience, dedication, and sacrifice to be a good carpenter. It takes years of study and practice. The carpenter must be skillful during the process because once he has cut off or discarded a portion of the wood, he cannot attach it back without artificial help, so the carpenter makes sure that what he is cutting off, he no longer need. Now let’s look at this process from a spiritual point of view.
