CHAPTER 1

First Things First

I truly believe the Bible contains treasures of knowledge and understanding. Finding these are much like finding the precious jewels hidden deep in the earth. The Bible says in Proverbs 25:2, It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter. It is the wisdom of God to do such a thing! The treasures of the Bible, sometimes, are not found on some low hanging tree, easily picked, and enjoyed without much effort. I believe that these hidden treasures are waiting to be found, and it brings God glory when his children find them!

It is also my personal belief that the doctrines found in Genesis 14 of the tithe and communion have been more viciously attacked, and purposefully maligned by the Devil than any other in Scripture. This may be because our Enemy knows how powerful these truths are in our lives, and therefore would keep us from the protection that their obedience holds. Although this book only seeks to study the Tithe, both doctrines (the Tithe and Communion), are of utmost importance for the believer in Jesus Christ to understand and partake.

As believers, we have an Enemy who works hard to stop us from being obedient in the tithe. Satan absolutely understands that your protection in time of lack is found in the Tithe. It is my purpose here to motivate, and inspire the Believer toward the Scriptural understanding of the Tithe and to convincingly expose fraudulent, un-Scriptural beliefs about the Tithe.

This book is not written to be an education about the tithe. If it were, it would include insights into things like the firstfruits of the tithe, etc. Rather, this book is written to inspire the reader toward a Biblical foundation and understanding of the reason for why we, as believers tithe today. It is also written to help those Believers who truly seek to do the will of the Lord in the tithe, yet who have found it painfully difficult (whether due to false beliefs, or difficult life situations) to confidently tithe to the Lord. Lastly, it is written to encourage those Believers who have been faithful in the Lords command of the Tithe. This is not an autobiography of my own experience, rather, it is written as a help to those who have not had the opportunity to fully study the entire Bible on the subject of the Tithe.

It is important to understand that this book is written by a layman of a church. I am not, nor have I ever been on any staff of any church. I do not write this for monetary gain of any kind. This is written after a strong urging of the Holy Spirit in my heart to share the joy with which I now confidently tithe to my Great High Priest, Jesus!

Since this book is written with teaching on the Tithe in mind, I will take you on a journey through the Bible visiting specific verses and passages dealing with the Tithe. We will visit the first place in the Bible where the word Tithe is found, and follow the principle of the Law of First Mention for us to logically understand what the Lord is saying to us in His Word concerning the Tithe.

I also implore the reader to seek the Lord in prayer about your part in the tithe. Don’t just take my word for it. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life, along the path of peace. Use the passages of the Bible along with the Holy Spirit in prayer to find your answer of peace concerning the
