ACKNOWLEDGMENT
The first and foremost acknowledgement we all should have, is for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, without HIS work and love we are nothing. His saving ministry and powerful mind (Bible Doctrine) are the only source of life, truth and eternal security. Each breath we take, is because our Triune God had a plan for our life and Jesus Christ (2nd person of the Godhead), because of the joy set before HIM (humanity) in eternity past, agreed to become a man and suffered in our place.
If you never have believed upon Jesus Christ it is the only requirement for entrance into heaven and the only name which can save a lost and dying world.
Jhn 3:3 Jesus responded and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jhn 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
I also need to acknowledge my beautiful, wife Sonia, who has been supportive of me in failures and success. She never tried to stop my spiritual calling even when it drew time away from our life. I would like to acknowledge three great men of God who have touched my life because of their hard work. First and foremost, Pastor Robert McLaughlin, second is Colonial R.B. Thieme Jr. and third would be Lewis Sperry Chafer. These are some of the great men of lineage, their consistent and tireless teaching and efforts live on through men like myself amongst many others.
A special shout out to two faithful students of my ministry – Pete M. and Rob S. thank you for the assistance in editing!
DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to my spiritual father, Pastor Bob of Grace Bible Church, Somerset, Massachusetts. I was ordained under the teaching of Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries. My mentor and friend recently went home to be with the LORD. This book is dedicated to his selfless teaching and commitment to live in the grace of God. You are always missed in the temporal life yet I am excited for your promotion in heaven! See you soon, faithful man of GOD.
Mat 25:23 "His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’
INTRODUCTION
This book was taken from a twelve-hour series I taught on angels within scripture. The Doctrine of Angelology, is probably in the top four or five theological teachings that will remain extremely mysterious until we all sit in the classrooms of heaven and learn the depth of the subject matter. What we know about angels is seen within scripture and it is my desire to simply shine a light on where God the Holy Spirit has led me during a deeper look into angels. I am a pastor-teacher who believes firmly in critical thinking and each Believer having their own intimate, relationship with God, I emphasize that in all my teachings. Having said that, there is a calling for the gift of pastor-teacher made abundantly clear in scripture. Yet the pastor-teacher is not the final authority in the life of a true Christian. The pastor-teacher is much more of a qualified chef, who prepares the meal under the authority and chosen menu of the Restaurant owner. God is obviously the owner, you may choose to accept or reject the portions or the whole meal, that is on you! For you to fully digest and later apply what you learn you must have faith and focus while the meal is served. This takes the filling power of God the Holy Spirit which allows that new nature, a Christ-like nature, given at salvation to operate in divine fellowship. My suggestion is that you understand the principle of 1John 1:9. It is the same principle that Jesus taught at the last supper during the washing of the feet in John 13:10.
This book will answer many questions, while still allowing new questions to arise and may well lead to another book on angels, a part two if you will? I believe it will be a solid reference for students and other pastors. It is straightforward and designed for the new Christian or even a seasoned student. I wrote this with the intent that an Unbeliever may stumble upon it. It is written using the New American Standard Bible, which I believe is the most accurate in relation to how we read and speak today. It is accurate and fairly close to most of the original context of scripture written thousands of years ago. I wrote this also with intent that you need not carry a Bible alongside this book to decipher it, that choice is yours. All the pertinent scriptures are fully on display and in bold and italic lettering. In the very last pages of this book, you will find an index of acronyms which I often use to flow naturally in my notes and lessons. I suggest a quick view of this before embarking upon the full reading so as not to be confused. Blessings and knowledge I impart to every reader. To GOD be the glory!
CHAPTER ONE
40203.pngSO, YOU THINK YOU
KNOW ANGELS?
To begin a book like this without first acknowledging that the subject matter is beyond deep or difficult to fathom, and yet clearly documented in scripture, would be foolishness. No one scholar, teacher or Christian expert can seriously lay claim to every detail about angels. Because no one expert or scholar, can lay claim to fully understanding every detail of the bible. The gift of pastor-teacher is given to certain men and God the Holy Spirit guides them to dig and agonize over every scripture, so therefore the majority of what they present stands up to the light of divine truth. Every pastor is only a man with opinions and an old sin nature (OSN). Yet if he truly has the gift, his studies will be divinely inspired and you will rest assured you are hearing the voice of God in his teachings. Perhaps not every phrase or principle but the girth of his messages will be touched by God in a very unique fashion. The intelligent and humble pastor will encourage his congregation to be critical thinkers and follow up with personal study. Having stated that, the subject of Angelology is a very pertinent and enlightening study.
We will look at fallen & elect angels, we will eventually get from Genesis into Revelation by the end of the book. We will touch on fallen angels, demons and Satan himself, but I want to start off with what angels are, what their purpose is and a basic overview of angelic beings. What we first want to note is;
Angels and humans are created beings both with free will and distinct personalities.
Angels currently have greater abilities than mankind.
Angels have eternal life.
Some Angels have closer similarities in appearance to humans than others.
There is no scripture that points to female angels, nor is there a scripture teaching us that Believers (Bels) become angels at some point after their death. Angels are not babies; they are not human and they are designed by God to be celibate. Meaning sex and marriage are not part of the lifestyle of angels.
The initial design of Angels falls under the following categories;
Now each of these titles comes with differing abilities and duties, but this is a good, general overview of angels. We are going to read right from Hebrews chapter two as it shines a light on many aspects of angels and the angelic conflict as well. Then we will go back and tear apart the scriptures I cover to really get a look into the angelic beings, which many people are misled. Before we do you need to note some principles about Hebrews chapter one. Hebrews chapter 1 has definitive descriptions of angelic presence and the purpose of Christ becoming the 2nd Adam (man) to resolve a conflict, that split angels into two categories; Fallen & Elect.
Hebrews Chapter one is clear that it is The Lord Jesus Christ (TLJC) who laid the foundation of world. It is TLJC who commands and designed the angels for His personal service as well. That leads us into what chapter two begins to clarify.
Heb 2:1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
Heb 2:3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
Heb 2:5 For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking. 6 But one has testified somewhere, saying,
"WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
Heb 2:7 "YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR,
AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
Heb 2:8 YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET."
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
Heb 2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Heb 2:12 saying, I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE.
13 And again,
I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.
And again, BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME.
Heb 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
Heb 2:16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Heb 2:18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
The time in which this book is written is important which is around 67 A.D., the writer is emphasizing that a national disaster is coming to Jerusalem. Specifically, the nation of Israel was about to face a national slaughter of close to a million Jews in 70 AD. Because the Emperor Titus would lead the Roman army to victory over a Jewish rebellion. So, the verses here in Hebrews are written with a sense of urgency in the original Greek.
Heb 2:2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable (permanent), and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
The word spoken to Old Testament (OT) saints through angelic messengers is the foundation of the Gospel of Christ. And those who rejected truth received due penalty. Angels are seen in the OT as messengers and guides to OT prophets and leaders. They also appeared in the form of warriors and used as God’s divine hand of justice in certain circumstances. The visible guidance and messages from Angels in the Church age (CA) is no longer needed, we have a completed canon of scripture and the of the indwelling Holy Spirit (HS). Not to say on an occasion, an angel will make an appearance in someone’s life, don’t put God in a box!
Heb 2:3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard. The shadows of the OT rituals and commands had become a stumbling block for the Jews. Many had added water baptism, the 10 commandments and circumcision into obtaining salvation. Look at verse 4;
Heb 2:4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
Heb 2:5 For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.
Angels are not ministering the Gospel in the current age (church). The indwelling power of the Trinity and the word of God have authority now concerning the Gospel of Christ and all scripture. One key word must be fully digested and clearly understood -DISPENSATIONS! If you do not understand the age you live in and the calling for this era (age/dispensation) you may well be a very confused Christian. Unfortunately, it is not our subject matter yet it is a simple fix. Simply look up the
