CHAPTER 1
The Battles of the Mind
The mind it is very powerful. What we think plays a big part in our life. We have the power to control our thoughts, and our attitude. To enjoy life we must free our minds from guilt, condemnation and fear.
The mind is really amazing. Your mind can go way back into the past history of our lives. Sometimes it is good to remember things from the past. And sometimes we really need to forget things from the past.
Your mind can also out of your imagination go into the future. I like to call this future tripping. And what you do with your imagination is really important.
An wise old sang; What a man thinks in his heart, so does he become.
I am not sure if we understand how powerful those words really are to our mind.
Where the mind goes the man follows. The best way for me to make this point for you to understand. If you were to put into your mind on a hot fudge Sunday. And if you keep your mind on it long enough I can promise you that you will end up with a hot fudge Sunday. Maybe some of you were thinking fancy dark cream chocolate.
It is a funny little way to describe it, but the truth is; Where the mind goes, man will follow.
You will end up following in that direction especially if you think on it long enough. What we thinks is so important.
A lot of people think that they can not control their thoughts. I have thought that way for many hard years of my life. By saying that; I can not help what I think
But the truth is you can control your thoughts. You can control what you think about.
You can choose your thoughts, and you can choose them carefully. You can replace a wrong thought with a positive thought.
Now this will take work. You can listen to me speak and can read what I write. But if you do not practice and do the work you will not see any fruit.
Start each day by thinking: I will make it a habit to think good things on purpose.
I will replace all my negative thought with positive thoughts.
I am going to do something good in my life.
Our minds have a lot of junk in them. The only way we are going to cleanse out our minds it to be aware of what is going into our minds. What we put into our minds is going to make a huge difference in how peaceful and happy we will become.
Instead of saying; This is an awful day! It is rain!
Instead make yourself say something positive. I am so thankful for this rain. I don’t have to go out and water my plants.
If there is a wrong thought that comes into your mind you have the power to cast it out with a positive thought. We need to choose something good each day to meditate on. And feed our minds with good positive food not junky negative food.
Did you ever hear the sang; You are what you eat?
Well, your mind becomes exactly what you take into it. One of my favorite things I like to do it to think things on purpose. I will tell myself that today is going to be a great day. Something good is going to happen to me today! Yes! Something good is going to happen to me today.
My father who has now gone to be with the LORD use to tell me; We are what we think we are.
And to always work daily on being positive.
My father told me that he would go to the gym everyday and work out. There was this elderly man who caught his attention. He looked really young to my father and he wanted to know first hand from this man what his secret on staying looking so young.
This man said to my father; I am positive. I smile when I don’t want to smile. I act joyful when I don’t feel joyful. I am kind when I don’t feel like being kind. And by the end of the day I really do feel joyful.
Amazing. He tells his mind daily that he is joyful. He smiles and it kind. Can it really be that simple? It is work but you can also have this same joy this man and my father shared.
They say it takes thirty days to make a habit. It will take work out of you and a commitment that you really do want to change your way of thinking. It will be impossible for anyone to have a fruitful happy life if they are constantly blaming other people for their unhappiness.
They don’t respect me. They are so mean to me. I am just waiting for this person to make me happy!
Well, we can not expect other people to make us happy. Happiness has to come from deep within our hearts. We have to allow ourselves to make a decision to be happy. And how we think in our minds plays a huge part.
Whenever we feel a negative thought come into our minds. Immediately stop the thought and replace it with a good thought. It will take a lot of work but you can do it. If you are reading my book right now you want to see changes in yourself. You want to be happier and be able to be a joyful peaceful person. You are on a good start. Just know that every thought that we take captive are the thoughts that we become and believe.
We need to be transformed, changed entirely changed by the entire renewal of our minds. By our minds new ideas and attitudes. By doing this you will be proving to yourself that your mind is changing. Remember there is a lot of junk in your mind that you have kept stored for many years. I think of this as a pile of dirty clothes. We need to wash the dirty clothes so we can put them on to wear them. In the same way we need to erase those dirty thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts.
You can try positive thinking. It might seem very uncomfortable at first. If you were just learning how to play golf. Remember how awkward holding onto that golf club made you feel. Oh so uncomfortable.
And often wondering it I will ever be able to learn how to golf.
And one day after practicing this new skill for thirty days it has now become a habit. You now know how to hold a golf club. I am sure you got my point here. It will feel very uncomfortable at first. In fact awkward! That is OK. Keep on trudging along you will get this skill.
If you learn to think well then you will end up with a good plan. Learn to think positive. Our minds can so easily be distracted by lies that don’t even exist. Things that just do not agree with positive thinking. Or maybe our minds might want to alter something that is a lie. Did that person really say that?’ Our minds can twist words also.
That is not purple it is yellow!" And guess what your mind has already taken captive of those negative thoughts. It will not believe that is not purple it is yellow! You got my point.
