Author

Lee R. Wesley II

Lee R. Wesley II is the author of the book titled “Right to Passage His Story” and artist. When not toying with thoughts of another manuscript he engages in drawing and acrylic painting which adorn the walls of his home. He feels that his work in literature is spiritually inspired. He has embarked on what he calls ministry in manuscript with an entertaining flair and soul-searching touch. Writing has always been a passion which like a planted fruit seed once nourished becomes a tree that matures and bears fruit; so, he has. Theology is his theme and psychology his scheme.

    INTRODUCTION

T HE RIGHT TO passage according to various literature was an initiation into manhood. In various cultures a young male child would have to undergo an established ritual. It may have been to brave having a tooth pulled without anesthesia; or, it may have been something dangerous such as killing a lion; or, jumping from a tall platform with a vine tied to one ankle. Oh, I forgot to mention the killing of a lion had to be done alone with a spear and the vine tied around one ankle has no elasticity. In this day in age such rituals are frowned upon and considered barbaric and uncivilized. In my opinion, whatever the case today or yesterday the right to passage still exist absent of various rituals. Today, the right to passage is a self-serving initiation into manhood. A question that may plague many a male, Am I Now A Man. Going through the fire and the tests of time has sent a many a man to his grave still wondering if he made it. The old saying, Man Up is challenged at some point. What does that mean, Man Up? I will leave that alone for now and continue to focus on the issue of right to passage.

Please, come with me. Let’s take a journey through life with a character named Scrapper and his search for the right to passage. Oh, by the way scrapper defined one way in the Webster dictionary means fighter. Will Scrapper win the battle or just wage many wars? Let us see!

    GENESIS

    CHAPTER 1

T HE DEVIL IS a lie! A nice sunny day it was and Scrapper wanted to go outside. He begged his mother; mama, mama please can I go outside. She gave in because his begging became annoying. If you’ve ever been around a begging five-year old you’re grinding your teeth about now. I don’t care who you are. She gave in giving Scrapper specific instructions, Scrapper, go outside and sit your behind on the porch and go nowhere; you hear? Yes, mama, Scrapper replied. He put on a sheepish grin and proceeded out the door.

Now, Scrapper lived in a basement apartment; weren’t no porch only a stoop. He exited the apartment door and sat on the stoop while he was sitting there a demon came out of the field in the form of a teenager. He had a stick in his hand and throwing it into the ground as if he were throwing a spear. The demon teenager would pick up the stick and repeatedly throw it into the ground; all the time his eyes on Scrapper. Mind you, Scrapper weren’t angel himself. Scrapper began to taunt the demon teenager; sort of like a dare. As Scrapper continued to taunt the demon teenager the moments got tenser. The demon teenager began to pick up the stick quicker and throw it into the ground harder. You can almost hear the quick rhythm of drums as the pace picked up until . . . .
