    Summary

    Thirty-Day Power Action Plan

    Preface

I WROTE THIS BOOK TO BRING much-needed enlightenment to the subject of pain and suffering and how to deal with misfortune. I hope this book will encourage, assist, and inspire anyone who has ever gone through a difficult time in his or her life and experienced a tremendous amount of pain and suffering.

It is my desire to present another perspective and provide what I hope will be fresh revelation and understanding on the subject of pain. Pain is often viewed as a negative experience. We run from the mere appearance of pain and shun it as though it is the plague. I am not suggesting pain is a pleasant and enjoyable thing, but there is a positive aspect to pain: it can produce a greater good in your life and be the necessary fuel to ignite a newfound power in your life.

I assure you that you can survive any obstacle and get over to the other side of your pain. Despite whatever storm you are currently facing or will face, I assure you that you will laugh again, you will smile again, and you will dream and begin to live again.

Life, at the moment, might not seem fair to you, but you have greatness inside of you. It is my hope and prayer that as you read the words on each page of this book, they will confirm and solidify that you have the ability to overcome your pain and live a vibrant life.

This book was inspired by a difficult and vile time in my life. I was in the midst of a personal war and struggle that drove me to an emotional place I had never been before. Also, during that time, my daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. My entire life I prided myself on being a person who was always in control, and I felt great confidence in my ability to navigate all of the complexities of life. For the first time in my life, I did not have the answer, nor did I know exactly what I should do next. On the verge of losing everything that was dear to me, I found myself in a dark, lonely place. I felt spiritually and morally bankrupt. I lost my swag and my confidence. I was mad at the world, and I withdrew from everyone. During that time, I also took a sabbatical from a thriving ministry in which I was the senior pastor. My sabbatical turned into an extensive leave of absence from the ministry, which had grown from seven members to well over several hundred. I was disappointed with my poor judgment, and I became despondent and angry at how I’d handled what I classified as the perfect storm. I was losing my desire and passion for ministry, and I no longer wanted to be involved with church. For the first time in my life, church was no longer a major part of my life. I took a job working as a car salesman for a Mercedes-Benz dealership, which gave me a perfect excuse not to go to church.

However, during that dark time in my life, God did not let go of me, although I tried to let go of him. He loved me with an everlasting and stubborn love,
