MY HOME & MY KITCHEN CORNER is an informal journey through two fundamental aspects of our lives: where we live and what we eat. Home linens designed by myself are mixed with cooking recipes of my own. Alike my novels, they both reflect the idea of universality I cherish and promote since I have been lucky enough to experience a variety of cultures.
This is how among others, you will find therein African fabrics associated with others, turning the items into something no more exclusively ethnical but neutral with a cachet, that can fit any house. Similarly, African ingredients are included into western recipes and typical African recipes are offered. Thus, the many people who have no clue on how to use the vast range of tempting worldwide products that are displayed on supermarket shelves can enjoy a different and tasty cuisine.
Inexpensive ingredients can be turned into gourmet dishes and a mere piece of fabric can reveal itself as a beautiful table cloth just adding another piece of matching material. Since not everyone can afford it, almost all the recipes can be made without olive oil but keep being excellent when a beautiful living environment isn't about money but taste.

J. Mairy Dietch’ studied literature and graduated from Yaoundé University with a bachelor’s degree in private law. She always loved writing, but life contingencies delayed the actual expression of her passion. She currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her two children, while accompanying her husband around the world in his missions as a consultant in the oil industry. J. Mairy Dietch’ speaks English, French, and Spanish.

DSCN1511.tifintro%20page.tifMES CREATIONS: MAISON & COIN CUISINE est le résultat d’une décision spontanée prise alors que je passais en revue les photos du linge de maison conçu par moi quelques années auparavant.
Mis à part le désir de créer de belles choses, l’une des idées maîtresses qui m’avait alors guidée était de mixer les textiles africains à ceux d’ailleurs de manière à leur conférer une touche à la fois originale et universelle. Et, cependant que je naviguais d’une image à l’autre, je réalisais que bien inconsciemment, ma façon de cuisiner était elle aussi un mélange des diverses influences culturelles au contact desquelles j’avais eu le privilège de me trouver grâce à mes innombrables voyages et séjours à l’étranger. Puis soudain, il me vint à l’esprit que je pouvais rassembler mes recettes de cuisine et mes créations de linge de maison en un seul et même livre. J’imaginais celui-ci comme étant une agréable ballade à travers les deux secteurs inévitables de nos existences quotidiennes : notre lieu de vie et notre alimentation.
Cet ouvrage ne prétend guère être un ouvrage professionnel, ce pour la bonne raison que je n’ai jamais pris le moindre cours en matière culinaire ou de création de linge de maison. Il se fonde juste sur mon amour des belles choses et des bons plats, couplé avec mon désir de partager combien il est aisé, à partir de produits simples, de créer des plats de qualité, et comment des ingrédients africains peuvent être inclus avec succès dans la cuisine occidentale. En effet, grâce à la mondialisation, quantité de beaux produits d’origine planétaire sont offerts à la vue sur les étals des supermarchés ; mais la plupart du temps, nombre de consommateurs ignorent comment les utiliser ou les adapter à leur cuisine d’origine.
MES CREATIONS : MAISON & COIN CUISINE est une tentative visant à pourvoir quelques suggestions savoureuses et utiles quant à cette carence tout en proposant des recettes typiquement africaines. Par ailleurs, dans une optique de simplification maximale, j’ai essayé autant que possible d’indiquer les quantités d’ingrédients en cuillérées plutôt qu’en unités de mesure.
Ce livre est si informel que vous n’y trouverez pas de sections dédiées aux catégories de plats conventionnelles (entrées, plats de résistance, desserts). Les recettes ont vu le jour au gré de mes humeurs et je les ai rédigées telles quelles. Dans le même ordre d’idées, les photos révélant le linge de maison sont disséminées ici et là sans aucun concept ni organisation spécifiques ; juste le besoin ressenti d’offrir du beau et du bon.
En fin de compte, MES CREATIONS : MAISON & COIN CUISINE est, de la première à la dernière page, le livre de la spontanéité. Néanmoins, je souhaite qu’il ne s’avère pas que beau, sinon utile aussi.

While aiming to produce beautiful items, one of the main ideas that guided me then was to mix African fabrics with others so that to give them an original and universal touch. As I was moving from an image to the other, I realized that quite unconsciously, my cooking was a mix of the variety of cultural influences I have experienced thanks to my countless stays and trips abroad. And all of the sudden, it just hit my mind that I could join both my linen designs and cooking recipes into a single book. I imagined it as a journey through the two unavoidable areas of our daily lives: where we live and what we eat.
This book doesn’t claim at all to be a professional one: I have never taken any home linen design or cooking class. It is just based on my love for nice environments and good food, with the desire to share how simple products can be turned into fancy dishes and how African ingredients can be successfully included into Western cuisine. Actually, thanks to globalization, dozens of tempting products from everywhere are displayed on supermarket shelves; but most of the times, many consumers don’t have a clue on how to use or adapt them to their original background cuisine.
MY CREATIONS: HOME & KITCHEN CORNER is an attempt to provide some useful and tasty suggestions as to this, while offering some typically African dish recipes. In the same move, aiming to make things easier, I have tried as much as possible to give the ingredient quantities in spoons rather than units of measurement.
This book is so informal that you won’t find organized sections dedicated to classical categories of food (starters, main dishes and desserts). The recipes saw light according to my mood of the day, and so did I write them. Also, home linen pictures are spread here and there with no specific concept, just the need to offer beautifulness. In the end, I can say that this title is all about spontaneity. However, I wish it reveals itself not only to be beautiful, but actually useful as well.
