One is too many and a thousand is not enough. Anyone who is a drug user knows what this statement means. This book is written to help those who have either hit their bottom and realize there is no way but up and are sick and tired of being sick and tired, not to mention broke busted and disgusted with themselves, and also for the parents and loved ones of people who are caught in the muck and mire of the disease of addiction to understand that addiction is a sickness and that it is curable by understanding, love and patience. Remember, addiction does not happen all of a sudden, and it cannot be cured all of a sudden. Ultimately, the choice is yours as to whether you want to grab hold of the few words that I write and use them to your advantage or let them fly, like the wind never to be thought of anymore. I pray fervently for those who want the redeeming life that I have found in my higher power who returned me to sanity because of my submission to Him and His Grace. His name is Jesus, for it is only be His Grace that I was saved and am able to write this message for you, you, and you.

The words you are about to read were a long time in the making. I thought for a very long time about putting pen to paper and finally I have set out to do just that. My intention is not to personify or glorify anything that I have done, but to share my experience, strength and hope with those who might be traveling on the same path or about to embark on a journey similar to mine. I acknowledge the many people who helped to contribute to my experiences, whether they be good or bad, for they are what has helped to mold my character and develop my personality. I give all honor and glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has kept me in the palm of His hand and has allowed me to go forward with my story. I want to thank Pastor Joshua McClure who also inspired me to write. Pastor McClure is a dynamic person who has a profound influence in my life. He is a wonderful Minister, Pastor and Teacher and I am extremely grateful to be part of the church family at Pleasant Street Baptist Church, in Westerly, RI, of which he was the Pastor. I also want to thank Deirdre Loftis who introduced me to the congregation at Pleasant Street and with whom I have enjoyed many wonderful hours of companionship. PREFACE

People may wonder, why am I writing this book? To what end and to what purpose is it designed? Well, I have thought these thoughts about it myself. Why, Why, Why? Well, the ultimate answer lies in the fact of who is reading it, and who is benefitting from it. Now that I am in the process of putting thoughts to paper I think about all the movies, books, magazines, etc. that I have either seen, or read and what did I get out of any of them. Collectively, I gained from someone else’s experiences, strength and hope and whether I realized it or not, I absorbed, by the simple process of osmosis, things that I later used in my own life and that helped develop my personality and character. This is why it is so important to be vigilant over what you allow to permeate your mind.

Also, to parents who are reading this book, it is extremely important for you to observe what and who is helping to mold your children’s thoughts and actions; especially in this day and age of electronic communication where anything is available at the touch of a keystroke. The same goes with drugs, alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, etc. This is why I choose to expose my involvement with the dark side of life, as I call it, so that the individuals, who have taken the time to read my meager and humble words, may gain the knowledge that there is a way that will lead you to happiness, joy and peace. That by using the mind-altering substances described above, you will encounter one or more of the following; jails, destruction, disease, pain, confusion and death.
