About this ebook
My love of God has influenced me to write this book. This love has also driven me to study the scriptures and many sources of biblical information for a greater understanding of the Bible and God. For without understanding, you are lost, and words have no true meaning. But with understanding, not only do words take on meaning, but they surpass the eyes and mind. They are planted in the heart and soul.
I present nothing new that will cause great contemplation. No, I present a collection of accepted Christian doctrine and information gathered in one place to ease scriptural study and improve the biblical studiers rate of understanding.
The information given in this text has been gathered from many sources. By having this reference guide, you will no longer have to search though many other avenues of information.
This text is meant to be a small, lightweight quick reference for biblical history, names, colors, numbers, symbols, and herbs. I do not submit. The text contains the only meaning or uses for the previously mentioned subject matter. However, the text will bring a greater understanding to the scriptures.
I have added thirty-one sermons for Bible study. All of the sermons are based on the King James Bible.
Edwin A. James
All of my material comes from the King James Version of the Bible, from the Oxford Bible, and from personal spiritual experiences. “Open your eyes and you will see, open your ears and you will hear. He Is in Everything And Everywhere.” My books are designed for the true seekers of God, the ones who want more and can’t get enough of his glory and love. “For our blood, sweat, and tears are crucified with him” (Edwin James). My love of God has influenced me to write this book. This love has also driven me to study the scriptures and many sources of biblical information for a greater understanding of the Bible and God. Dedication
This book is dedicated, first and foremost, to The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I also dedicate this book to my mother, Lillie Alberta Jones, deceased now, and with The Holy Father. I also dedicate this book to my sisters, Vonciel Jones, Sharon A. James, and Valerie K. James, who have always been there for me. My sisters have always prayed for me and accepted me, no matter what my faults. If not for their prayers, I know this book may not exist. I also dedicate this book to my brother, Eddie H. James, truly my opposite hand

Introduction
My love of God has influenced me to write this book. This love has also driven me to study the scriptures and many sources of biblical information for a greater understanding of the Bible and God. For without understanding, you are lost and words have no true meaning. But, with understanding, not only do words take on meaning, but they surpass the eyes and mind. They are planted in the heart, and soul.
I present nothing new that will cause great contemplation; rather, a collection of accepted Christian doctrine and information gathered in one place to ease scriptural study and improve biblical understanding. This guide is based on the King James Bible. I have written thirty-one sermons, for edification.
This material is compiled from one source and contains biblical history, names, colors, numbers, symbols and herbs. I do not submit that this text contains the only meaning or uses for the previously mentioned subject matter; however, the text will provide a greater understanding of the scriptures.
Chapter One
History of the King James Bible
The first known written scriptures, The Ten Commandments, were written on stone tablets by God and given to Moses. According to Biblical scholars, this event is believed to have taken place between 1400 and 1500 B.C. Our Father is truly the origin of the scriptures and our Bible. The language of Moses’ time was an ancient form of Hebrew. Moses is believed to have been the first human writer of the scriptures, giving us the first five books of the Bible; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
500 B.C. - The original five books increased to thirty nine books. These thirty nine books make up what is now known as the Old Testament
. The language used was Hebrew, but some of the writers are not known.
200 B.C. - The Apocrypha
was added. The Apocrypha means "written in Greek. Many of the writers are not known. The Apocrypha is considered to be a collection of Jewish historical books. Some Bible scholars say the Apocrypha have no real scriptural value. I disagree with this. I have found great scriptural value in the book of Tobit.
First Century A.D. - The section of the Bible known as the New Testament
had been completed. The New Testament was written in Greek. Paul, the last apostle, wrote the majority of the New Testament. The New Testament was written on papyrus. The word Bible comes from the same Greek root word as papyrus. Papyrus sheets were bound together similar to modern books.
315 A.D. - The Latin Vulgate
was created. The New Testament was translated from Greek, to its’ original language to Latin. This was accomplished by Father Jerome, the first to proclaim that The Apocrypha was simply a collection of Jewish historical books having no real scriptural value. Due to Father Jerome’s conclusion, The Apocrypha was excluded form the Bible in the mid 1880’s.
500 A.D. - The Bible existed in over 500 languages; however this changed the following century.
563 A.D. - The Culdees
(certain stranger), were a group which originated on the Scottish Island of Iona. The Culdees were a secret society, true to the Christian faith; not the Catholic Church. Joseph of Aremethia, known for giving up his tomb for our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, was the first man to be called a Culdee.
600 A.D. - The only organized and recognized church world wide was the Catholic Church of Rome. The Catholic Church restricted the Bible to Latin only. This gave the church more power over the people and the ruling monarchs of the time since only priests were trained in Latin.
995 A.D. – The first English translations of the Bible came into existence. These versions were not the English we know today. They were written by unknown Anglo Saxons.
1384 A.D. – The first completely hand written English translations were produced. All 80 books of the Bible were included. This was accomplished by John Wycliffe. These Bibles were known as The Wycliffe Bibles
. Wycliffe believed the people should have the Bible in their own language. This was in complete opposition to the Roman Church.
1455 A.D. – The first printed Bibles were produced by Mainz Gutenberg. Gutenberg invented the printing press and produced "The Gutenberg Bibles". Gutenberg bibles were printed in Latin.
1496 A.D. – The New Testament was translated into English by Oxford professor John Colet.
1517 A.D. – 1522 A.D. – The New Testament was translated into German by Martin Luther. Martin Luther changed Christian religious practices. Martin Luther is responsible for the diversity of Christian churches today. The Lutheran, Protestant, and Baptist churches were all formed as a result of Martin Luther.
1526 A.D. – The New Testament was printed in English by William Tyndale.
1535 A.D. – The Old Testament was translated into English by Myles Coverdal and John Thomas Matthew. These bibles were printed by Myles Coverdale on October 4, 1535, and were known as Coverdale Bibles
.
1537 A.D. – The Second English Bibles were printed by John Rogers. Rogers printed them under the pseudonym of Thomas Matthews
, taken from John Thomas Matthews. The Rogers’ Bibles were translated from the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures.
1539 A.D. – The first Bibles were printed in English (all 80 books). They were authorized for public use by Henry the VIII. Henry the VIII made a bequest to the Arch Bishop of Canterbury Thomas Crammer. The Archbishop hired Myles Coverdale to carry out this task. These bibles were known as The Great Bibles
. This name came about because of the Bibles size, they were 14 inches tall.
1560 A.D. The Geneva Bible
was printed. The Geneva Bible added numbered verses to the chapters. Every chapter was accompanied by notes in the margins and referenced. The Geneva Bibles are considered to be the first study Bibles.
1611 A.D. – King James Bibles
were printed. All 80 books of the Bible were included.
1782 A.D. - First King James Bibles were printed in America.
1885 A.D. – The King James Bibles were printed without The Apocrypha. This left only 66 books to the King James Bible.
This is a brief history of the King James Bible we read today. I have left out the torment many of the contributors of this great work have endured. I have also left out many of the reforms the church movement went though. My purpose was only to explain the history of the translations and how we get from the first scriptures GOD wrote (The 10 Commandments) to the King James Version we use today.
This book (Speak to Me) is based on the King James Version of the Bible. The most widely used Bible today. Other versions of the Bible have come into existence and are used today.
1808 A.D. – The first woman to print a bible was Jane Aitken.
1833 A.D. – Noah Webster, known for Webster’s Dictionary, printed his version of the King James Bible.
1841 A.D. – The English Hexapha New Testament
shows Greek and six English translations in columns.
1846 A.D. – The Illuminated Bible
was a grandly illustrated King James version of the Bible that includes The Apocrypha.
1885 A.D. – The English Revised Version
was the first English revision of the King James Bible.
1901 A.D. – The New American Standard
was published in modern accurate word for word English translation.
1973 A.D. – The New International Version
was published in modern phrase for phrase English.
1982 A.D. – The New King James Version
was published in modern English. It maintained the original style of the King James Bible.
Chapter Two
Names
We come across name after name in our study of the scriptures. The majority or readers pay little or no attention to the name. The pronunciation of most of the names is an accomplishment within itself. Like words in the dictionary, all names have a meaning. Biblical names have a meaning also. Not only do biblical names have meaning, they give the scriptural text around them greater meaning.
I am reminded of a book I read, The prayer of Jabaz
. This book was based on 1 Chronicles 4:9 and 10. Jabaz means; born with sorrow. A person’s name in biblical literature indicated their social relationships, expectations, hopes and dreams. Only their relationship with GOD could change this. Be careful what you name your children. Jabaz changed his future by having faith in the Holy Father, and requesting great blessings, protection from evil and guidance with his blessings.
In Genesis 17:5, GOD instructed Abram to change his name to Abraham (Father of many nations). GOD gives the meaning of Abraham within the scripture. In Genesis 17:15 and 16, Abraham was also told that his wife Sarai was to renamed Sarah (Mother of Nations). The meaning of Sarah is in Our Savior Jesus, the Holy One, has been called many different names though out the Bible. I believe this is because GOD can’t be described with one name.
Today we not only name our children by what sounds good, but also by the meaning of the name. There must be some true connection between the meaning of the name and the character
