SPECIAL RECOGNITION

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree: A true statement indeed and even more real to me now than it has ever been before. Just a few months before this book went for print my sidekick, running buddy, mother and sister in Christ; Pearl A. Barbour went home to be with the Lord. As the eldest, only girl and the media person I took on the administrative tasks which included putting together a journal of her life; finding pictures, newspaper clippings and interviewing people. As I began to put together pieces of her life I saw for the first time a path of footsteps that I am currently walking in and had not realized these footsteps were made by her. I knew my mother to be a strong believer and a woman of prayer. However I had no idea how many spiritual doors she had kicked open in warfare prayer, how many people are strong believers today because she led them to Christ, how many people she mentored, and how many times she faced the devil and his stupid tricks head on and never even let on that she was in a battle. I always saw her as quiet and meek; but I see now that my mom was a fierce lioness. I know that fierce spirit of the lioness because it is in me I just didn’t truly realize that I had gotten it from her. Thanks Mom for the legacy!

WALKING IN FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH

My great grandmother Mrs. Zadie Ziegler (Mama Zadie) was a prayer warrior. She went to be with the Lord many years ago but I was blessed to grow with her in my life well into my teens. The spirit of her faith in God and her confidence in praying Gods word lives on in me now. I can still see her in her sewing room with her radio tuned to Moody Bible or Oral Roberts and her bible open. And I can hear her talking back to the radio speaking Gods word aloud as she covered our family in prayer, rebuked the devil and released blessings over us that we are walking in yet today.

Thank you Mama Zadie. I am sure that you took some ridicule as many of our family then believed as they still do today that it don’t take all that, but regardless of what others thought, you continued to be the set apart one for our family until the day you died. Thanks for always praying and always having a word from God. You demonstrated to me how to stand in faith and pray in faith and I didn’t even know I was being taught. As I sit here today a minister, a teacher of prayer and an author writing a book on prayer and spiritual warfare; I am living proof that prayer really works. I know that what I am today is a manifestation of your prayers. Thank you Mama Zadie. See you when I get there!

INTRODUCTION

I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord while in High School over the next 20 years I attended several churches yet no one had ever talked to me about learning how to pray. I have nothing against any of these churches. I just wonder how so much time could pass with me sitting under all those pastors and leaders, interacting with all those saints of God and no one taught me how to pray on purpose with power.

It may sound funny but when we don’t know, we don’t know that we don’t know. Darkness seems ok once we get used to it. Like most people I assumed that praying was just something everyone knew how to do and not something that needed to be learned. I figured that you go along and live your life and when something bad happened you tried your best to make it right. When things got so bad that dire help was needed, only then would you pray to God confessing that you’ve done your very best on your own and now His help was required. From where I now sit, that mind-set sounds ridiculous, but that was all I knew to do during that time. Sadly, the harsh reality is that today, many Christians are living their entire lives just like that, believing that they are powerless in the affairs of their own life. They are living as victims of life circumstances and weak in their own human ability and strength. The scripture (Hosea 4:6) is true: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… This was definitely true for my life because I suffered some destructive things that I did not have to encounter or endure had I been taught how to pray effectively

After living 20+ years in darkness as a Christian I was led to a powerful, full gospel church where I began to be taught; not just preached to but taught. Part of the teaching in this ministry was a new members 10 week bible class, in which had weekly topics to study and scriptures to memorize. The topic of the session one life changing week was Prayer! That week as usual, we were given scriptures to memorize, and while I was reading through the assigned scriptures, I came across the following verse:

And I sought for a man among them who should wall up a wall for the land, and stand in the break before me, that I should not destroy it. But I did not find one. (Ezekiel 22:30 KJV)

Wow, something went off inside of me like a cannon! Though I had never read that scripture before, it was as if I had returned to something familiar. Inside of me I identified with it from such a deep and familiar place, that the feeling reading that scripture gave me was as if I was welcoming home and old friend after a long journey.

It really is true that one word from God can change your entire life, and that word certainly did change mine. Little did I know at the time that from the studying and meditating upon that one scripture, I would be entering into a calling on my life. God was beginning to call forth the intercessor and the prayer warrior that he created me to be before the foundation of this world. From the first time I read that scripture until this very day; whenever I read that verse in Ezekiel chapter 22 the voice of the spirit inside of me shouts: NO NEED TO LOOK ANY FURTHER LORD…I WILL STAND IN THE GAP, I WILL MAKE UP THE HEDGE. I WILL PRAY, I WILL FIGHT FOR THE KINGDOM AND EVEN IF NO ONE ELSE EVER DOES, I WILL!

Perhaps you are where I used to be in, thinking that prayer is a last resort after you have done your best to change things on your own. Or maybe you already have the revelation that God will move once he is asked to and that prayer must be on purpose with purpose. Whichever end of the spectrum you land, know that - THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!

This book is written to encourage you to pray more often and to use the very words that God gave us in the bible as your frame work and sure foundation all while working in conjunction with the time on the clock to ensure effective and strategic prayers.

This Book is an Alarm sounding off to awaken you to a powerful place of being able to set in order everything in your sphere of influence through prayer. You will understand like never before that you have something to say about everything in this earth. You will awaken to the truth that everything in this earth is subject to you and that if it is not in line with the Kingdom of God you have the authority and power to change it.

This Book is Eye Salve. Rev 3:18 tells the church to anoint thine eyes with eye salve that thou may see. Well among the other attributes of this book this book is also to help the intercessors see better and clearer so that we can do even more for the Kingdom of God while on our post on the spiritual watch towers; our prayer closets and war rooms.

CHAPTER 1

HAVE FAITH IN GOD

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

FAITH IN GOD – ACCESS TO THE POWER

This is a book about prayer not about the principles of faith. However, the foundation of all that we do as Christians, if there is to be any effectiveness at all, must be Faith. Faith is not a religious logic it is a requirement to access anything of God. God said that without faith he is not pleased with us.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for him that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb. 11:6

As you use this book to carry out your prayer watches you will need to draw upon your faith in the Word of God as the key ingredient that makes prayer work. If you don’t have faith in God’s Word it will be impossible to access the promises of God through prayer. Prayer does not work without faith in God. Human faith that amounts to confidence in what we can see and what we can do is not what I am talking about. I’m referring to God’s faith which is the measure of His faith given to each one of His children when we are born again.

As you go through this book you may learn new prayer principles, but I caution you not
