Dedication
I am honored to dedicate Positioned for Destiny in memory of my beloved parents, the late Pastor W.L. and Mrs. Luzell Blackwell, who remain the bedrock of the values and ethics I espouse. I was afforded the type of upbringing that laid the foundation for my moral compass and integral fortitude that was grounded by biblical principles. My parent’s seminal example of kindness and generosity to all regardless of age, religious affiliation, or socio-economic strata was the standard of their Christian character. Their exemplary prototype for parenting provided the sustenance during my formative years that enabled me to realize the importance of integrity in private and public life.
I also dedicate Positioned for Destiny to Dr. Mildred C. Harris who prophetically envisioned this project before it was conceived. I acknowledge my pastors: the late Reverend W.L. Blackwell, the late Apostle R.D. Henton, and Dr. Bill Winston. Collectively they have delivered sermonic exhortations and revelatory teachings that inspired me to persevere until this project was actualized.
Finally, Positioned for Destiny is dedicated to future generations of children, adolescents, and young adults whose destinies loom on the horizon.
Introduction
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowls of the air, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’" (Genesis 1:1, 26–28 KJV)
God explicitly stated Adam’s earthly assignment in the above reading: replenish and rule planet earth, and make it a reflection of the utopia He created in the garden of Eden. That assignment revealed Adam’s purpose on earth. However, Adam’s decision to eat of the forbidden fruit resulted in the forfeiture of God’s original plan for his life. He and Eve were driven out of the garden immediately to find a residence in a world filled with decadence and darkness, void of the presence of God.
Satan’s modus operandi, from the beginning of time, has been to breach the relationship between God and humankind. He subtly looks for human proclivities in individuals and an opportune time to dismantle God’s pre-ordained purpose. Satan methodically used an arsenal of weaponry to thwart the plan of God in the lives of Adam, Eve, and future generations. One of the tools Satan employed in the garden of Eden was deception. Adam relegated his authority to Satan after Eve was deceived. And the serpent said unto the woman: ‘Ye shall not surely die; For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil’
(Genesis 3:4–5 KJV).
Satan conversed with Eve like an intimate friend. However, his objective was to obtain access to God’s creation through deceit and thereby gain authority over the earth realm, and cause Adam to abort the purpose of God for his life.
Each facet of God’s original plan for Adam was torn asunder when Adam ate of the forbidden fruit. His relationship with the Father was severed, and within a millisecond, he was evicted from Eden. His position as a ruler on earth was reduced to a common laborer. The anointing to dominate the earth was no longer Adam’s reality; he evolved into a carnal man ruled by his five physical senses.
Adam’s fellowship with Father God and his revelatory relationship with Him became distant memories. His disobedience not
