The Emergence Of A New Generation
()
About this ebook
In every generation, there are things peculiar to it. In Christian history, business, education and every other field of human life, young men and women have played a very crucial role in shaping their generations.
Currently, I believe we are living in a new generation where the youth should take their rightful places in society to be able to “take over” from an older generation when they finish their assignment. Born in 1978, I count myself amongst this youthful generation and I am convinced it is our time to become all what God has created us to be. Any waiting and delay might cost us our future and destiny. The title The Emergence of a New Generation is a strong conviction that the youths of today are well positioned for exploits ― exploits in every sphere of society. Acts 13:36 comes to mind: "For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption. Note the phrase his own generation in the scripture above. This simply means every generation is served by someone from that generation. The Emergence of a New Generation is a wake-up call for today’s youth to rise up and pursue their God given assignment, dreams and purposes.

Introduction
In every generation, there are things peculiar to it. In Christian history, business, education and every other field of human life, young men and women have played a very crucial role in shaping their generations.
Currently, I believe we are living in a new generation where the youth should take their rightful places in society to be able to take over
from an older generation when they finish their assignment. Born in 1978, I count myself amongst this youthful generation and I am convinced it is our time to become all what God has created us to be. Any waiting and delay might cost us our future and destiny. The title The Emergence of a New Generation is a strong conviction in my spirit that God is positioning the youth of today for exploits ― exploits in every sphere of society. In my own small way, I have tried to communicate The Emergence of a New Generation with friends and a number of youth groups to sensitise them. This my small way
has included social media: facebook, twitter and blogs.
However, recently, I got another strong conviction to share this message with a wider audience especially my contemporaries so we will position ourselves and take on the baton.
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption (Acts 13:36).
Note the phrase his own generation in the scripture above. This simply means every generation is served by someone from that generation. I hope by this book every youth will understand there is a baton to be handed over and we will be the recipients of that baton. Hence this calls for us to prepare ourselves for the handing over
.
I believe God placed this book in your hands because He has an assignment for you. I am very convinced about that. Now, let me briefly describe this emerging new generation to you. These are young men and women raised and trained to take over mantles. Others have paved the way and we will blaze their trail.
…other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours (John 4:38).
Before you proceed further, please pray the prayer below:
Father in the name of Jesus, may the eyes of my understanding be enlightened and may you position me in the place where you have destined me to be in your plans and purposes. May your word find a place in my heart and yield hundred fold fruits. Grant me a discerning spirit as I read. Amen.
Chapter 1
God of All Generations
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance (Genesis 15:13-14).
Think about it: Individuals from your generation will surface as leaders in every field—business, art, politics, economics, math, technology, medicine, [and] religion. Those men and women will shape the future during your lifetime. Nobody knows who they are. You might as well throw your hat into the ring by leveraging your gifts and opportunities for all they’re worth—Andy Stanley¹
I was preparing to speak at a breakfast meeting to a youth group on how they can be relevant as Christians in this age. What am I going to say to them
I asked myself? The continuous thought of having nothing to say kept haunting me. This youth group I was preparing to speak to were also unfortunately
my contemporaries. This means that the probability of them knowing all the things I know was very high. Thoughts of that aggravated my fear. During my waiting and preparation period, a number of messages kept flooding my mind and the message I finally settled on is what has become the title of this book.
A week before the breakfast meeting, the word generation kept prodding my spirit. Before this time; during one of my personal Bible study times, a scripture had popped
out of the pages of the Bible ministering to me what I took to be a message from God. So when the word generation kept coming back to me, I quickly took a pen, paper and opened to the scripture that popped
at me; Genesis 15:13-14. If you look closely at the scriptures above, when God was speaking to Abraham, I believe He had two generations in mind.
•vs 13: Joseph’s Generation
• vs 14: Moses’ Generation
If you are familiar with the biblical accounts of Abraham’s descendants’ servitude in Egypt, it is clear that it was through Joseph the Israelites went to Egypt. Genesis 15:13 was fulfilled through Joseph. After he was sold into slavery, his brothers later joined him in Egypt. Exodus 1:6 captures Joseph and his brothers as a generation.
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
After Genesis 15:13 was fulfilled through Joseph, God, who works with generations set in motion the fulfilment of vs14 by the birth of Moses.
And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son [Moses]….(Exodus 2:1-2).
Remember it was Moses who took the Israelites out of Egypt with great substance
after four hundred and thirty years (Exodus 12:36; 40). Let me at this point exhort you that no matter what you are going through in life; God’s promises and words concerning your life will definitely come to pass. You will come out from any challenge a better person if you continue to hold on to God’s promises. God has not run out of ideas. He hasn’t gone to sleep
on your issue. Whatever you are going through, though it seems delayed, just hang on in faith— God surely has a plan to see you through.
Is God Relevant In Today’s World?
In Genesis 15:13-14, God showed a vision to Abram (Abraham) about what was going to happen to his descendants. From my opening statements in this chapter, you might ask: what has God showing a vision to Abraham got to do with a youth group that wants to know how they can be relevant?
An atheist might push the question further and ask: Is there God. Is He relevant in this information and technology age? Does He understand the world’s technological advancement? All the chaos and confusion on earth, has He got a say? Does He still reign supreme? Archaic! Won’t it be appropriate to describe Him as such?
Well, contrary to atheistic and some bizarre scientific arguments that there is no God, the complexity of the human life and the order in the galaxies definitely cannot be by chance. There is a hand behind it. One of their own: Isaac Newton, a Scientist, has this to say about the world:
The solar system itself could not have been produced by blind chance or fortuitous causes but only by a cause very well skilled in mechanics and geometry.²
The Solar system itself could not have been produced by blind chance….
It means the world as we have it and its inhabitants did not just happen, there was and is an intelligent being behind this life. (see Psalm 24:1-2). C.S Lewis, one of Christianity’s ardent defender (apologetic) who also happened to be a former atheist wrote in one of the great philosophical piece of Christian history, Mere Christianity, that God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine.
