About this ebook

Love and Other Stuff is a poetry collection that looks at the subject of love and things such as sadness, inspiration and thought provoking material to mention a few as seen through the eyes of the writer. Unconditional love is probably love in its purest form yet love means so many different things to different people. Some are good and some not so. In Love and Other Stuff the writer explores both sides of the coin to look at the good (as love should be) and also the bad but she also throws in a bit of humor, a bit of silliness and allows the reader into some of her most private thoughts.

    Introduction

    There’s LOVE. That’s it

Then there is the absence of love

Then there are people who think it’s love

    People who believe it’s love

People who act as if it’s love

People who wish and pray for it to be love

    Love can’t be forced

    Love can’t be bought

    Love should be felt

    Love should be nurtured

    Love should be shared

Just because I, they, we sometimes call it love

Does not always mean that it is indeed love

It’s either LOVE or it’s OTHER STUFF

    LOVE

    The thing about love

    Above all things

    It’s supposed to be true

It’s supposed to be right for you

    That’s the thing about love

    - Venessa Atson

    Apologies

    He comes over every night,

    Looking gloomy and sad.

    He takes her bruised hand,

    Presses his lips against it,

Stares into her red, swollen eyes and says,

    I’m sorry.

    A heart melts,

    Hugs are shared

    And then he leaves.

Tomorrow night, he’ll do the same.

    He came, that morning

    Looking gloomy and sad

    No hand to take,

    To press his lips against,

    No eyes to stare into.

    I’m sorry, he said.

    Hearts melted

    Hugs were shared

    And he left.

Who will he do it to tomorrow?

    Back to Black

Back to back, we do our dance

Eye to eye, we take the chance

Toe to toe, forth and back

Then we slip back to black

Left and right and side to side

Take my hand, please don’t hide

Under my shoulder and over my back

Then I slip you back to black

    Head to head, so headstrong

We dance all night to our favourite song

Just when we think we got it all back

That’s when we fall back to black

Hand in hand, we trip and fall
