About this ebook
For many years, it has been said that a mind is a terrible thing to waste. However, what happens when a person doesn't even realize that he or she is wasting something so valuable? What happens when a person believes that what he or she is doing is beneficial and not detrimental to his or her happiness and growth?
In Mental Clutches, Willie Gene Williams Jr. supplies us with various examples, problems, and solutions that men and women of any ethnic background can relate to. He extends knowledge on issues such as parenting, money management, positive and negative energy, importance of one's history, health, and knowledge. These are just a few areas of interest that are addressed in Mental Clutches.
Williams begins by stressing the importance of positive energy and how it actually affects any and everything that we as a people try to pursue. He examines some of the encounters that have crossed his path and those that have crossed the paths of others that he has had the privilege of meeting. He then breaks down problems, provides sound solutions, and opens our minds to everyday things that we as a people easily overlook.
Williams in Mental Clutches has really taken a loving approach to the thoughts and theories he brings forth to his readers. His knowledge and persuasive ideas challenge us all to view love, life, and the pursuit of happiness in a much more positive manner.

I have always been told ever since I was young that I have an old man’s soul
and that the way I view things is not similar to those of my generation. There are so many people whom I am truly blessed to have crossed paths with and shared life experiences with. Without those experiences, the birth of this book could have very well never happened.
My first acknowledgment of thanks has to go to the TRUE GOD. Unlike some entertainers on award shows, this thank-you is not an acknowledgment simply for being politically correct. Praying, meditating, and studying various Holy Scriptures truly changed my attitude and view on life. Therefore, that alone and so many others are my reasons for thanks.
It’s a must that I give special thanks to my father, Willie Gene Williams Sr., and my mother, Gail Williams, who recently passed away. My father’s discipline and work ethic were instilled in me early and never seemed to rub off. Because of this, I was able to succeed and grow as a man in many areas of life that at times seemed very challenging. My mother was the definition of if you want it, go for it.
She showed me that even when the odds are stacked against you, if you believe, you can achieve. Even through my parents’ shortcomings, I was able to become wiser in areas that some people don’t encounter until the later stages of their life. For the good, the bad, the pretty, and the ugly, I have to thank my parents because without them, there is no me.
A special shout-out to M.Sgt. Omar Robertson for never turning his back on me and never agreeing with me when what I was saying was wrong. He is a true brother from another mother. He opened his doors to his house for me and my son when times were hard and believed in me when very few did.
James Robinson, I thank you for being encouraging, being understanding, and being there for me through some very tough years. As our opinions seemed to flow together, the brotherly bond that the military started has grown strong as steel over the years.
I am forever grateful to my extended family, the Nichols. Ms. Cecelia, Raymond, Jenika, and Joe, the love that you have shown and given me is embedded in my heart and soul. Your honesty and fairness helped me through my darkest times. Many smiles and some of my greatest times were shared with you all over these past twenty-six years; and when the final hour of my mother came, just like always, you all were there. I will forever love you for that.
To my children, my heartbeat, Ethan, Aaliyah, Victoria, Willianys, and Gina, it is because of you that I believe failure is not an option. You all bring unimaginable happiness to my life. With every breath in my body, I will continue to strive to be a father that you can depended on, learn from, and seek guidance from. I love you all to life!
Lastly, I would like to thank my queen, Yahaira Tavales Cadiz Williams—You started off cheering for me in the bleachers when I was on the basketball court, and now I am able to cheer even louder knowing that I have the honor and privilege of spending the rest of my life with you. Thank you for all your support and loyalty. I love you to life.
INTRODUCTION
Many people understand how they want their life to play out. However, many times people find themselves coming up short on their dreams because of their lack of basic knowledge, discipline, self-control, and money management. In many cases, a lot of individuals are not exposed to great examples at a young age and tend to form self-destructing habits that cause them to backpedal instead of making forward progress in their pursuit of happiness. This is what I call falling into the trend.
A vast majority of people tend to become just like their surroundings and what they are exposed to daily. This cycle continues day to day, month to month, year to year, and generation to generation, not because it has to but because it’s not challenged. Ways are set into our minds early, and the belief that our lives can change for the better is sometimes ignored and forgotten. We become stagnant and content, believing that this is what honorable, humble, righteous, and meek people do. We become satisfied with what life has given us and not worry about excelling, all because we are told by those around us that we must be content with this average, mediocre, nondriven, and nonsatisfying lifestyle that we have become accustomed to living. What if I told you that this type of lifestyle doesn’t have to belong to you or your children? What happened if I told you that there is a way that you can upgrade your way of living without involving drugs, guns, gambling, or tricking? Would you believe me? Would you dare try to explore other options? Because I do have a solution. However, let’s make one thing perfectly clear: I said I have a solution. I never said it would be easy though. What I have can only be fulfilled with hard work and dedication. This will not be a cake walk. Understand that some people go to the doctor to get liposuction when they feel that their midsection is not the way they want it. My solution is not that doctor. My solution is more like an old gym with mats and a pull-up bar. My solution changes not only your appearance but also your way of life. Understand that sometimes when things are given to people freely, people run the risk of taking what they have been given for granted, unlike those who have to really work for what they have. You see, when you have to work hard for what you have, you are more accustomed to taking care of it and appreciating it more than a person who is just given something.
This book is ten chapters of pure heart-inspired subjects, which are guaranteed to open your eyes on matters that most encounter on a daily basis. This book serves as a solution to many problems that we all see and deal with no matter a person’s race, gender, or economic status. I truly believe that if the solutions of this book are carried out in a person’s life, he or she runs a much grander risk of accomplishing the things that he or she has set his or her eyes on accomplishing. However, in some cases, the first thing that must happen is the reconstruction of one’s mind. With that being said, the book starts off by giving a clear understanding about positive energy and what one needs to do to develop it. Truthfully, if you’re reading this book with a negative mind-set or with the intent to find fault instead of fact, you might as well close it up right now and give it to a friend or foe for a Christmas gift because this book is not for you. This book is for those who want to control their lives positively or righteously and the lives of those they hold dear to their heart. Positive and negative do not mix; they do not belong together. When they are in the same company, they do harm to each other, just like when your battery dies on your car and you need to use some jumper cables. If you’re like me and have had the experience of having to jump-start the battery of your car, you understand how important it is not to let that positive and negative cables come to together. Once they do touch, sparks fly. This is because they are not meant to be together. Negative has its job to do, and positive has its job to do. There is no difference between those jumper cables and a man or woman’s everyday life. We deal with negatives all the time, and the only way that we can rid ourselves of negativity is with positivity. When you have a negative thought about that coworker who gets on your nerves every day, the only way to remove that negative feeling is with a positive one. It can be a vast amount of positive things that can subdue the blow of negativity: your boss comes in and tells you that you will be receiving a raise, your boss lets you go home early to spend time with your children, a fellow coworker tells an amusing joke that puts a smile on your face, that negative coworker apologizes for the way he or she has been acting and explains to you the problems that he or she is having, your spouse sends you flowers to your job or a funny e-mail, the list can go on for days. However, understand that negativity cannot survive in the presence of true positivity. On the flip side, positivity cannot survive in the presence of negativity. Therefore, it is very important that we rid ourselves of negative energy so
