Love Saw It - Cindy M. Williams
Love, Leave Or Lose
You could’ve never told me in a million years that my life would be ending like this. It’s 5 a.m. Terrence is in the emergency room and Chad is in jail. How did we get to this point? I never saw it coming! My life was going to damn good for this to happen, but all good things must come to an end. I knew sooner or later a decision would have to be made but I didn’t think it would be more sooner than later. I guess doing what I was doing a decision was going to be made by me or the man upstairs, I think I took too long, now I’m in this mess. Lord if you get me out of this I promise I wont ever make this mistake again
.
By the way, my name is Sicily Bryant Robinson. I kept my maiden name in case I ever got a divorce I could drop the Robinson and go back to Bryant. I know it’s a terrible way of thinking going into my marriage but what the hell, Im a realist, plus it sounded good at the time and I didn’t want to lose a part of me. I am CEO of my own company, 15 stores in 10 different cities, a mother of three, a wife of 21 years and at the age of 40 I look damn good. Take it from me, what looks good on the outside isn’t always good on the inside. I guess what I’m trying to say is Terrence is my husband, Chad is my lover and this is how we got here.
Me And Terrence
I met Terrence my senior year in high school. He was a popular football player, a jock as they called him and a very handsome young man. I always knew he would make it someday whether it was football or in business I just knew. We dated all through college and the day before graduation he proposed to me at a friend’s party. It didn’t surprise me that his frat brothers were involved, they stuck together like glue and was a part of everything the other did, but I have to admit it was sweet. After graduation we both decided to move to Atlanta Georgia and make it our home. We bought a four bedroom, three and a half bath house, he got his Ford truck and I got my Q56. With two great careers and planning a family you would have thought we’d be on our way and live happily ever after, so did I. Over the years I had given birth to three handsome boys that seemed to have grown up right before our eyes. Randall was now 19, Clifford 17, and Terrell was 16. The two older boys were like their dad sort of set in their ways while Terrell took after me. We had a good thing going.
Randall Leaves The Nest
I can honestly say that although I had a great career going I was also very involved in my boys life. Randall had graduated high school and decided to go to Jacksonville State College in Jacksonville Florida. It was a week before his big move and we were doing some last minute shopping to make sure he had everything he needed. Mom are you sure you’re gonna be okay with me leaving and going so far?
I had no idea where that question came from but then again Randall always kept my feelings and thoughts close at heart so it didn’t surprise me. I stopped in my tracks and placed my hands on his cheeks, of course I will, I am very proud of you and I know you are doing the right thing. I’m going to miss you like crazy but I will be fine. Just don’t be surprised if you look up one day and I’m knocking on your door.
There was no way I was going to tell him I was falling to pieces inside at the thought of my first born leaving the nest but I realized months ago that I had to let them live their lives and become men. I had Terrence and the other two at home to look after and keep me company so I was going to be fine. He laughed at the thought of me popping up and gave me a kiss on the cheek for reassurance. We stopped at the school to pick up Clifford and Terrell who were waiting outside with some friends. They were aware of Randall’s leaving and wanted to say their goodbyes. As we drove off they yelled goodbye and told him to keep in touch. I think that is when it became real to Clifford and Terrell that their brother was really leaving in a week so the ride home became very quiet.
Pulling into our three car garage Terrell looked at Randall and asked if he was going to take his car. Without a second thought Randall laughed and said what would college be without a ride?
We all laughed and walked inside the house. As usual Terrence had not made it home. Then again he never made it home before 7 on Friday. He had pay checks to get out, plans to fax and paper work to finalize. He owned and ran a popular construction company that was becoming the largest in our area so he stayed busy. Six trucks, twenty-four man crew and projects that were booked through the rest of the year. I was very proud of him and he knew it. We discussed every move he made for his business as well as mine. We both were determined to be successful both in the work place and home.
It was a warm Saturday morning in June and we were running around like little school kids trying not to miss their bus when actually we were getting ready to take Randall to Jacksonville State where he already had a job lined up and was starting on Monday. He decided it was his way to get himself settled into a strange place and get some money under his belt. He had promised to live on campus his first three years of school and if he kept a B average or above come senior year we’d help him get an apartment. We were all packed and ready to go.
Terrence and Terrell rode down with Randall in his car while Clifford and I followed. The five and a half drive didn’t really seem long. As we arrived on campus it was obvious Randall wasn’t the only one with the idea of coming today. We helped him unload his things and got him settled in before taking the family to dinner. Deciding on a seafood place we’d passed coming in didn’t take us far from campus. If the food was good you could be sure it would be one of Randall’s new eating joints. We were seated in a spot with a nice view of the city, the service was good, food excellent and price unbeatable. It was almost 8 p.m. and we had to get back on the road for home. Terrence and Randall had their heart to heart man to man chat, looking in the rearview mirror while sitting in the truck with the boys I saw Terrence place a white envelope in Randall’s shirt pocket with a pat on the chest. I couldn’t help but laughbecause I knew it was money. Before leaving the house this morning I gave him a white envelope while loading the car which had money in it also. He had a good head on his shoulder, wasn’t into drinking or drugs and had a strong faith and belief in God so I knew he’d be okay. My first born was a college kid or should I say young man. Take care sweetheart, was all I could whisper as we drove off into the darkness.
Chad Jackson
Terrence had been after me about hiring some help for the store in Savannah. Jessica, the woman that had been my assistant manager for five years recently had her first child and decided not to return to work. Being a mother I understood completely so there were no hard feelings. I had gone on this website that posted resume’s and found two that I was very interested in so I decided to set up interviews. There was Chad Jackson, 31 years of age, four years of experience out of New York. Then there was Sheila Willis, 42 years of age, six years of experience, one son from Albany Ga. Let me be the first to say Chad had the balls in his corner. He arrived 20 minutes early for his interview in a fresh navy suit. Standing a tall 6’2, 215 lbs give or take, large brown eyes with a hint of gold that sparkled every time he smiled with those pearly whites. Picture Boris Kodjo but darker, know what I mean. The interview went good, he answered everything right and understood I was serious about my business. I interviewed Sheila the next day, although my mind was already made. To make it seem professional on my end, I waited a day then gave her a call informing her of the decision to hire Chad. You can’t win them all.
I must admit I was confident about his skills and he had won me over with the interview, but you have to understand the store in Savannah was my baby so I decided to take a week and go there to help him get settled. My secretary made reservations for one of my favorite hotels in the same downtown area as the store which was convenient, not to mention some of the best restaurants and other boutiques were there. I arrived late Sunday evening, drove by the store then headed to check in. The excitement of a new manager, not to mention handsome, must have tired me along with the drive itself. Once in my room I took a long hot bath, rubbed body butter on my very tensed legs and feet and slid under the sheets. Tomorrow was going to be a busy day and I wanted to be prepared.
I arrived at around 8 that morning to check out things for Chad’s 9 o’clock arrival. The store was in great shape, clean as usual. I had good help and they were well paid so there was no reason for it to be any other way. Hearing the lock on the door I turned to see him coming in. Looking dapper as ever and smelling like a dream I greeted him with a simple good morning and he did the same in return. Not sure of the cologne he was wearing I couldn’t help but wonder if it had the same affect on other women as it did me. You know the scent that makes you weak in the knees and takes your breath away? The tone of his voice made my ears tingle so I had to step back a little before he picked up on my reactions.
We discussed the type of customers that came through, what they expected from us, and what I expected from him. Mrs. Robinson I aim to please
he said in almost a seductive whisper and at that moment my voice walked out on me. Trying to clear my throat I finally spoke and said call my Sicily one on one and Mrs. Robinson when in front of others. We are going to be working together this week and I want you to get comfortable enough to ask me anything.
Damn I didn’t meant to say it like that, I thought to myself and I think he read my mind because as I looked up into his eyes he had a smirk that said he was thinking of other questions that business. What I meant was ask anything about the business.
As he turned to walk away he paused and replied I understood you completely
.
Our day went by fast and he caught on pretty good. It was now 7 o’clock and we were closing the store. Dinner was heavy on my mind and I was wondering if he was hungry also. Do you have plans for dinner tonight
I asked without a second thought. I wasn’t sure if he did or didn’t but I was going to find out. None that I know of
he said walking towards me. Keeping composure I looked him in the eye and followed with then why don’t we end this evening on a quiet note and have dinner together somewhere peaceful and tasty. There is a place on the water front called Karen’s that serves the best seafood and wine money can buy
. Reaching around my shoulders to turn off the lights and to
