INTRODUCTION
The power of speaking positive words during conversations is what Just Say It! is all about. It encourages you to speak four affirming messages to yourself and to others. Then, watch your relationships flourish and grow to completely new levels. I challenge you to try it by starting to form a habit of saying these four phrases on a regular basis. You will soon discover the profound effects these short word phrases can have on relationships.
Currently in the twenty-first century, people are relying more and more on technology as their preferred method of communication. Technology is definitely here to stay, as it has many advantages. However, this book—Just Say It!—is meant to create more awareness that the spoken word can have such a discerning impact on your relationships. Throughout this book, I encourage you to continue to emphasize its use.
The Scriptures discuss the importance of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV): Encourage one another and build each other up.
The Concise Oxford Dictionary (2014) defines the word encourage as to give support, confidence, and hope. By having an encouraging nature, you help to convince yourself and others to do or to continue to do something through providing support and advice.
Over the years, I have noticed an increase in the number of people, in all areas of life, who are becoming more discouraged, bitter, and apprehensive about themselves, their abilities, and their purpose in life. Thinking negatively about yourself and your abilities can cause stress, isolation, feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and depression. People who live under a cloud of negativity do not believe that they belong and are cared for; they lose their direction in life, their sense of purpose, and their willingness to seek resolution.
Through experiences I know that the good news that I am writing about in this book works! It is possible to combat negative thoughts through the powerful choice of thinking and saying positive words. Just Say It! uses short word phrases that can change the entire tone and course of a conversation. Two, three, or four words can affirm your thoughts and feelings about people and can make them feel great about themselves and about your relationship with them. Simple short word phrases can turn a conversation from good to great!
As I was writing this book, I began to doubt myself and wondered if I should even be writing a book about this topic. Negative thoughts started to creep into my mind. In the middle of my negative thought processes, my daughter Sara said, Mom, I just wanted to let you know that I care about you. You know how to light up my day. I am so fortunate to have you in my life.
Sara was sent to be my encourager! She had no idea that I was writing a book on this topic. Her spoken words had such a definitive impact on me. Sara’s supportive message of hope was all the confirmation that I needed to continue to write this book.
