FOREWORD
Dear Reader,
I am honored to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on Reflections with you. I’m very proud of my mother’s courage and dedication to have written this book. Her journey has taught me how to become a better parent and has simultaneously helped me become a better person.
My mother and I have always loved and cared for each other deeply, but somehow over the years we managed to create unnecessary conflicts and bitterness toward each other. Then one day, unknown to me, she made a life decision to put an end to the suffering she was experiencing in our relationship. It was the first time in her life, as she later confided, that she surrendered to God and desperately asked for His help. God did answer her request. He guided her through a healing process that she openly shares in her book, Reflections. Miraculously, as her life began to improve, much to my surprise, my life began to improve as well. The irony is that I discovered the details of her process only once I read her book.
One important piece of wisdom I’ve learned in Reflections is that self-love is the foundation that sets our life’s path. If we don’t love ourselves, we repeatedly attract people and situations in our lives that remind us of why we don’t love ourselves.
My mother has taught me how to be a great parent. Her generous spirit and unwavering love have guided me to become a better person. Over the years, I’ve observed her dedication to bring meaning to her life and to live her life’s purpose. I’ve always held a great deal of admiration for her. Now that I look back, I wish I would have told her that more often.
So many powerful divine messages, tools, and wisdom are included in Reflections. I’m convinced that once you’ve read this book, you’ll have an urge to reevaluate your beliefs about what parenting truly means for you.
I’m confident you too can heal the relationship with your kids. I now genuinely believe that keeping an open heart will heal any conflict. It’s such a fantastic feeling to have a harmonious relationship with my mother. It energizes me and makes me feel so much more confident and alive. I would encourage every parent to read Reflections, as it will bring purpose and meaning to the important role your children play in mirroring your inner world.
Thanks, Mom, for being the loving soul that you are. You’ve saved my life more than once, and I love you more than words can describe.
Your son,
Shawn

INTRODUCTION
Does your relationship with your son or daughter lack a sense of respect and trust? Are you constantly worried that something will happen? Is your relationship often filled with conflict? Have you tried everything to make things right?
The most important question I would like to ask you is, Have you had any success in healing your relationship? If the answer is no, then as a parent I genuinely feel tremendous compassion for you. I can absolutely identify with the anxiety and frustrations you must have encountered or are still encountering.
For many years I experienced significant problems with my son. I can relate to what it’s like to feel victimized, drained, fearful, guilty, and angry toward your child, teenager, or adult child.
I took me a long time to understand that to bring harmony, love, and respect to my mother-son relationship, I had to go within and reevaluate my belief system of what good parenting really meant to me.
This book will introduce you to a new paradigm for parenting. It will show you how conscious parenting can help you connect with your true essence and become the best version of yourself. It will offer you the opportunity to open the doors of your heart to reveal the true meaning of your relationship with your son or daughter.
Like most people, I learned to be a parent by observing my own parents. I modeled their values and beliefs for quite some time. I measured my success as a parent against a set of values and beliefs that my parents advocated but couldn’t always live up to.
I learned important values from my parents that have served me well. However, their beliefs were not always aligned with who I was or with the person I wanted to be. By going within, I realized that I had reached a point in my life that I needed to rethink what parenting truly meant for me. This was the first step
