"Did You Ever Know You Were My Hero

Everything I wish I could be

I have flown higher than an eagle

    With Love Daughter

    The Epic Story of;

    Little Mary Grand ~

Before the start I found a seat, way back up in the stands,

That race I never will forget, the day I ran my Little Mary Grand,

The sweetest little thing that ever walked out on the track,

She was young and pretty and full of play as they led her out to the starting point for the first race of that day,

Tail straight and head high, she danced all the way a gay little filly her name Mary Grand,

I was so proud to be her owner as I gazed down from the stand,

I knew she would be in the money way before she made her start,

The way she pranced and danced almost shook the driver from the cart,

As they came around to the starting point, the drop of the flag and they were off she was right there with the goods,

As she picked up pace she walked away from all the big boys the ones that had to wear the hoods,

Opening up in the first stretch something had slipped my drivers mind,

He was a real horseman and he caught it just in time,

She made a lunge and broke her pace and lost her balance from the hip,

Before the race my instructions were, never touch her with the whip,

I could almost hear my driver wail after the whip had touched her tail, come on, come on, be your daddy’s little lady,

Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up baby,

Awe with a skillful taunt of the reigns he lifted her front hoofs and set her back in step,

I swooned back in my seat, to see that master move I almost wept,

She swayed a little then leveled off and now her hoofs were back in pace,

Then I knew my little filly was going to take this race,

You would never believe this story unless you were there to see,

Her harness practically floated on her back as she paced along in glee,

We were holding second place and I knew that would never do,

For that filly had more breath than any other horse ever drew,

Coming out of the final turn we left second place,

And that’s when my little queen proved that she could really pace,

We lead the pack by two full lengths; she was really burning hay,

Nothing could touch her tail, coming down that straight-a-way,

And now my nerves, riding with her all the way, then my shock came, something that had to be,

    My little filly was
