About this ebook

Humans are conceptual beings who naturally create a belief about things. A belief is a quantum. A quantum is a philosophy, a reality that we believe to be true.

Your brain is an organ that needs to be trained. It doesnt automatically understand its own nature. It creates a unique reality where perception, size, time, space, past, present, and future are changing from moment to moment. This is done so automatically the brain doesnt realize what it is doing. It might even think that it is experiencing a reality, which is the same for everyone else.

The symbol yin-yang is used to represent the Taothe blending of opposites, balance, harmony, and unity. I have added this sign >, which means greater than, so throughout this book, you will see the Tao as > yin-yang. The reason for this is because moral consciousness is not dualistic. It is absolute, and the primary focus of this book is about moral consciousness.

If you wish to awaken and be reborn anew day by day in such a way that you are always adding to your character, presence, and wisdom and if you wish to live as a master (one who lives in harmony with his true nature), then this is the book for you.

Living masterfully is a rewarding journey that liberates you so you can find life, freedom, and the godliness of nature.

    AUTHOR’S NOTE

W ITHOUT REALIZING IT, I BEGAN MY QUEST FOR higher consciousness in 1960 as a judo student.

After learning how to fall properly, I started to practice judo with a black belt instructor. When I pushed him, he yielded more than I pushed, and when I pulled, he moved smoothly with me. He used my strength, movements and timing to his advantage. I was being aggressive and forceful, but he was using technique and being harmonious. It was obvious that his way of being harmonious was superior.

Soon after I started judo, my instructor competed in the United States National Judo Championships and won. Not until then did I realize that he was Haruo Imamura, a master, a world-famous Judoka, and he was teaching me the doTao – the way to be in harmony with life, a way to be efficient with everything that I did.

To promote judo in the United States, another judo master was sent to my area from Japan, Professor Yamauchi, who was the highest black belt in the western hemisphere. Because of these instructors, judo champions from all over the world visited my dojo.

I had been lucky because I had the opportunity to study the philosophical principles of the martial arts from the best teachers. This gave me the technique and skills to win in tournaments, but the primary benefit was that I was learning about my human nature and life. Ju means to yield, and do means the way. Judo: The way to yield and be in harmony not only with an attacker but with life.

In 1964 I began my karate training, and the philosophy that I was learning augmented all that I had learned in judo.

In the 1970’s I studied T’ai Chi in San Francisco at the Alan Watts Society. The instructor was Al Huang an international T’ai Chi master. I had another opportunity to learn about life from a philosopher/sage.

As I was learning T’ai Chi, I expanded my philosophical knowledge about the way, ‘the Tao. I could see how the principles of judo and karate were also valid for T’ai Chi, and how T’ai Chi complemented judo and karate. I also studied aikido in San Francisco and discovered how aikido utilized all the principles that I had learned. Ai means harmony, ki means energy, do" means the way.

I took psychology classes in college and went to a wide variety of self-improvement seminars. As I learned more about leadership skills, and how to deal with conflict, it became obvious that the information could be cross-referenced with the philosophical aspects of the martial arts. I was discovering that the same principles that helped people become successful and insightful were discovered by both Western and Eastern wise men. Ralph Waldo Emerson, Albert Schweitzer, Alan Watts, and Carl Jung taught similar concepts to those of Eastern philosopher-sages, such as Confucius, Lao Tsu and Morihei Ueshiba. These universal principles were also taught by the major world religions. I was becoming aware of universal principles and could see how they applied to everyone’s life all the time.

The philosophical concepts of the Tao, energy flow, centering, and unifying the mind and body, were extremely valuable for me in my work as a fireman. It became obvious to me that those who excelled in handling emergencies, as well as those who were effective officers, did so because their thoughts and actions complied with wise universal philosophical principles.

Unknowingly, the firemen developed a personal moral code that determined their level of proficiency. Without exception, all of them were constantly altering their quality of being by the way that they interacted with life. Rank, power and political strength were never enough to override a philosophical mistake. It often appeared that the hierarchy was exempt, but the durability of natural law eventually dominated, and the wrongdoer experienced unexpected difficulties.

A person may not be aware of gravity, but it still exists, and it affects everyone. The same holds true with universal principles – they are timeless, cultureless, and they affect everyone all the time in everything they do.

To share what I had learned, I taught self-improvement, leadership, and management classes for federal and state organizations, colleges, and businesses. I also taught in martial art studios for twenty-five years.

As I taught, all that I had learned increased day by day. I discovered that teaching was an excellent way to gain more awareness about the philosophical concepts that I already knew. My whole life was becoming the classroom where I could infinitely grow philosophically.

People need a unifying ideology that transcends race and culture, or a political system so that they can live harmoniously––a method so that all people can develop their full human potential.

The way to accomplish this is to teach people about their human nature, ethics, morality and how to become wise. I developed a special personal-growth program for school children. Several years later, I was given the opportunity to teach my program in a school district for grammar school, junior high and high school students.

The students at every grade level in that particular school district responded to the program like the participants in my business-management seminars, and martial art studios. They were polite, disciplined, obedient, harmonious and quick to learn about themselves and life. The same results were repeated with other school districts and special counseling groups with which I was involved. Young children, teenagers and adults from all walks of life, if taught to be heroes, champions and winners,
