    Today

I awoke and found myself with a present

Another day to live and share

An opportunity to love my neighbour

    To lend a hand, to whisper a prayer;

I could complain about the weather

Or be depressed by the morning news

But I prefer to thank my Maker

A cheerful outlook I will choose.

I may not like what I see or hear

I may stumble and fall somewhere

But I can rise and somehow find

    Another way to walk and not be blind;

To look beyond the failure and pain

To see the good and laugh again

To reach out and share my smile, my dance

To lift a heart with a compassionate glance

And before this day has fully passed

To leave something good behind that will last.

    Morning Glory

The Son was shining in all His glory

    On this momentous morn

Off came the sheets, the covers

The past would now be gone.

The curtain of death was drawn back

Revealing a sight for sore eyes

There stood Lazarus, no longer late

On his countenance a look of surprise.

He gently breathed, stretched and yawned

    The picture of perfect health

    The onlookers stood paralysed

    As Lazarus enjoyed himself.

    The Son had risen wondrously

Drying the rain of our tears

    And in this miracle moment

    Evaporated our fears.

    Bittersweet

I touched a rose today, petals silky smooth

    Fragranced by heaven, beautifully calling

My heart to savour the sight

I felt the thorns, sharpened thick arrows

    Protecting the crown, valiantly calling

    Me to avoid their bite.

Sweet rose, offering perfume yet prickly and sore to the

    Unwary touch.

I touched a dog today, mane well combed

    Tail gaily swishing, playfully inviting

Me to draw near and stroke

I felt its jaws, thick sharpened arrows

Raised in abandon, licking not biting

    Me as friendly folk.

Gentle dog, ‘man’s best friend’ yet unlike God can

    Prove beastly to the touch.

I touched a drop of snow today, frail white flake

    Falling from heaven, silently calling

Me to look upward and view

I felt it dissolving, thin watery trail

Pooled in its thousands, traffic stalling

    My, what solidarity can do.

Single drop of snow, heaven’s kiss yet like a snowdrop

Can face us downward by its touch.

    Sunrise

    Wake up morning

    Open your eyes

    New day dawning

    Colour the skies

The sun ascends to its seat

It’s time of sleeping is complete.

    Banish darkness

    Light the day

    Spread your warmth

    Stream your ray

The sun is glorious to behold

Bless our bodies, drive away cold.

    Sonrise

    Wake up mourners

    Open your eyes

    A new day dawns

    Saints streak the skies

The Son ascends to His seat

    His victory over death complete.

    Darkness vanquished

    The Light has won

    Spread the good news

    All hail the Son!

The Son is glorious to behold

His rays of life are better than gold.

    Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

Entertaining angels, well that’s one thing

But we had a different kind of stranger walking with us

At first he seemed ignorant about our sorrow

As we journeyed that day to Emmaus.

We later came to find out that this stranger knew

More about the crucifixion of Jesus

He opened up the scriptures like no one else could do

How our hearts deeply burned within us.

We still did not realize who this stranger was

Until he sat down to eat with us

As he broke the bread and passed it around

Our eyes beheld the very face of Jesus.

No small stir did this scene cause among our kin

As His next action took us by surprise

Like a puff of smoke, He just disappeared

With open mouths we couldn’t believe our eyes.

    Sir Plus

Is he a knight, is he a king?

This man whose praises all will sing.

Is he a lord, is he a prince?

The man whose enemies all must wince.

He took our nothing upon Himself

    Our minus He did wear

    All that’s rotten about mankind

    He volunteered to share.

    In doing so He nullified

    The curse upon our hearts

    For our rottenness He crucified

A new nature He now imparts.

On the tree, hung Sir Plus

    The cross itself a sign

Destroying the negative nature of man

    A plus ( + ) is its design.

No other man is like Sir Plus

Of pride and greed He’s empty

He died for us and rose for us

His grace and truth are plenty.

    Now positively we can stand

    His goodness we can wear

All that’s godly, pure and right

By faith in Him we share.

He is a King and so much more

    To be worshipped, loved, adored

He is Lord and Prince of Peace

    His accolades will never cease.

Sir Plus takes away my minus and gives me more than enough – a bonus.

    Completeness

    Casting off the cloak

    Of unhappiness I’ve been wearing

    My heart has now awakened

    Pulsating with new life.

    Love so unconditional

    Embraces me forever

    To free me from comparing

    Myself with everyone.

I know now to be still

    Not anxious or ungrateful

    His plan for me is perfect;

I rest in His sovereign will

    Maturing ever thankful

    That Christ makes me complete.

    Courage

I nearly got hit by a truck

And as I looked up in surprise

I saw the distinct logo ‘EXPECT’
