A Million Miles Ago, the Journey Continues

About this ebook
Suicide is at the top of the list for death among teenagers. Wedding vows are no longer sacred, while divorce is rampant. Thousands become addicted to prescription drugs while counselors search for new ways to help their patients cope with the cares of life. You may be one of these and maybe you feel you cannot go on; your heart breaks from the loss of a child; all you have left are memories and a question, Why?
Maybe you feel ashamed and degraded because of rape or sexual abuse; you carry the burden of shame and confusion until it weighs you down. Maybe you have been through a divorce; you feel like a failure or a reject; you turned to drugs or alcohol or some other substance, just to get through the disappointments life has dealt you. Yet you find that nothing works and you want to swallow the whole bottle of pills the doctor gave you, so you wont have to wake up to another sad day.
Maybe you are in a jail or prison, locked away from society for making bad choices. You have broken the rules and it is payday, but the cost is too high and you do not know how you will ever pay it. You may be a battered wife, with little children at your feet and you cannot find a way out. You may be a drug addict, with a need you cannot fill or an alcoholic with a thirst you cannot quench. You were told you will always be an addict and now you feel helpless.
I too have been in most of these places in my life. I share my story in hopes that I may help someone else find peace in the midst of his or her own personal storm.

M ae Black Buckel has strengths that amaze both men and women. She has borne hardships and she has carried some heavy burdens, but she holds on to happiness, love and joy. She may smile when she wants to scream. She sings when she wants to cry. Mae cries when she is happy and laughs when she feels a bit nervous. She is a fighter and stands up to injustice. Mae does not take no for an answer when there is a belief in a better solution. She has gone without so her family and others could have. She grieves at the loss of a family and yet remains strong when there is no apparent strength left. She gives hugs and kisses knowing they can heal a broken heart. The heart of Mae is what makes our world turn. She brings a fresh spirit of joy, hope and love. She is an artist who
paints" with compassion and ideas. Her words and music speak volumes as she gives moral support to her family and friends. Mae has vital things to say and everything to give. If there is a flaw in Mae, it is that she has forgotten her value and worth to all of us who read and listens to her God given talent. Carl Snodgrass, CDRUSN Ret.
"I just want to congratulate you on your new life. Ms. Mae from the first day I met you, I knew you were special. You are a jewel and a treasure to your family. After reading your book A Million Miles Ago, I was amazed at how God kept you through it all. I know that your book will be an inspiration to all of God’s children that read your story. I believe that God will use your book to bless other women and your story will teach others that, Joy cometh in the morning. Peace and blessings to you. Vandra Parks, Health Connect America, Memphis, Tennessee
"Well, I first would like to say that your book was very inspiring, motivating and very real. I took so much from reading it. From the genuine love, a mother has for her children to the love and faithfulness one carries and displays to her husband and the faith that you had in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have recently struggled with several obstacles that I knew in my heart I would need to settle at some point. I honestly reflected back on my life, began to take several of the readings and scriptures, and began to see how if I trust in God and pray for guidance in forgiving others he would show me.
He forgave me and I must forgive others. I wanted to forgive. How do I help these babies and guide them the way you would have me to Lord, loving them no matter their choices. In A Million Miles Ago, you painted a vision of a mother that did what it took to take care of your children and family, loving beyond all bad choices. Your love and faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ is genuine and clearly understood. I found this book to have helped me in those ways and so many more. Thank you, Ms. Mae for making it simple and truthful.

Introduction
I n the following pages you will read about a woman born in the rural South near the end of the Depression. A woman abused and exploited as a child and as an adult, a woman who was saved by the blood of Christ.
This book is a book of praise and thanksgiving. Yes, it details some of the painful experiences of the Author, but it is predominately a testament to the forgiveness and grace of God.
The author is not a subject of pity. Her life is witness to her strength of character and faith. God blessed her with seven children. Most of them (except one deceased) are now doing their best to get through this life in a manner that makes her and our Savior proud. You will read about physical and mental abuse heaped upon her, but pay close attention to the fact that nothing she was given to endure lessened her faith or weakened her character.
She was gifted with a wonderful voice and a talent for writing song and verse. She has been singing the praises of our Lord since childhood; she has been writing Christian songs and poetry for almost as long. After the death of her eldest son, Mae lost the inspiration and desire to write. The hiatus lasted for almost ten years. We, her readers, are glad it did not last longer.
Since taking up the pin again, Mae has written volumes of poetry and Gospel music. Several of her poems have won International recognition. Many of her songs have received airplay here in the United States and in many other countries over the world. Her first book of poems, Inspirations has made an impact on all who have read it. The book has been used in prison outreach programs. It has also been circulated among our troops overseas and has become suggested reading in churches and hospitals in many areas of our country.
I was Mae’s pastor for almost 7 years and our friendship continues to this day. Mae’s children were very young and life was very difficult for them during those years. She struggled, but continued to trust God when her faith was tested. She came to church and brought her children, faithfully. She was a member of the church choir and sang specials also. Mae loved to worship God.
She had a hard life but was always soft spoken and had a kind and gentle spirit. Her deep faith in God kept her spirit sweet."
Pastor Willard Gardner, Russellville Church of God, Russellville, Tennessee
Foreword
W hen I first met Mae, she referred me to her web site where, she said, you can learn all about Mae Black. Upon reading a reading of the first five or six of her poems, I knew I had to get to know this woman of God.
It is in God’s word that, out of the abundance of the heart, the lips speak. The gift that God has given Mae to write poetry that reflects his glory and the majesty of Jesus Christ was not misplaced.
Every precious stone and all metals come from the earth formed by the hand of God. Emeralds, Sapphires, Diamonds, Rubies, Opals, Silver, Gold, Tin, Copper, Platinum, {and many other metals}, the earth from where they are extracted, differs only in the mineral content. One important commonality, these precious stones and metals are formed, and created by heat and pressure. Mae has experienced an incredible difficult life. She has certainly experienced heat and pressure. With life sustaining strength and anointing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Mae has come through all these trials as a precious jewel of the Lord Jesus Christ and is more than fit for his use.
Mae writes about the Lord yes, but also about the sin-sick condition of the world, we live in and she does so from a perspective of how God must see things. Mae has a heart of great compassion for her fellow man and especially for our fighting men and women. She writes about the difficult conditions that these wonderful warriors find themselves in.
There is nothing pretentious about Mae. Her capability to minister salvation, restoration, healing and a brand new life as the reader is introduced to the living God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Mae makes it abundantly clear that there is a loving Savior; waiting to embrace and
