    Purpose

The purpose of this first book in the series, Next Level Woman, is to help you get the proper mindset for attracting and maintaining financial security, financial freedom, and wealth in all areas of your life. What happens when lottery winners with a poverty mindset win the lottery? They request all of their winnings at once, spend money like crazy, and end up on a show called, Lifestyles of the Broke and Hopeless in 5-10 years because they’re bankrupt and in the red! This will not be you. This book will teach you how to develop a wealthy mindset based on Biblical principles and common sense living. You have to develop the proper view of money in order for it to bring you the life you so clearly deserve as a child of the most high God. This book will teach you that money is a tool. You must know this so that you can learn how to make money work for you rather than you work your whole life for it. Only then can you develop and cultivate a relationship with money and money making opportunities that will bring you, your family, and generations to come wealth beyond your wildest dreams.

I wrote this book for African-American women who are single or married, with or without children, the caregiver of a family member, employed, self-employed, or not employed that either live from paycheck to paycheck or have a negative net worth. What is net worth in financial terms? Simply stated, your net worth is all of your income and assets minus your debts. A positive net worth means that you have more income and assets than you have debts. On the flip side, a negative net worth is when you have more debts than income and assets. While there are a growing number of African and African-American women who are millionaires around the world, there are many everyday women who wish to have a positive net worth, have more than enough money to take care of themselves and their loved ones, and want to utilize their financial resources to improve their communities, yet are not in a space where they are reaping financial blessings. Although we have a rich African-American history of entrepreneurs and successful professional women, many of us are not connecting to the same wealth building principles and strategies our foremothers used that can increase our income, reduce our debts/liabilities, and produce wealth for this generation and the next to come. For those who have been praying for a breakthrough and know that you want a better financial situation and want to improve your life but don’t know how, this book is specifically for you.

So, if you’re ready to take the challenge and the first step to becoming a Next Level Woman—using all the creative energy God has endowed you with to create the life you really want—then get a notebook, pen, and your favorite cup of hot tea and let’s get started! Welcome to your Next!

    Chapter 1

The Biggest Lie Ever Told to a Black Woman

We’ve all been told many lies in our life. My favorite lie told to me as a child used to be sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Whoever thought of that was a liar and obviously didn’t know the truth about word power. In the beginning, God spoke the world into being. We have to know the simple truth: what you speak has power to bring you life or death. You can either speak life or death into a situation, so you better be careful about what you say. I’m sure that we all have many of these quotes or fibs that we can remember from childhood that adults would tell us in hopes that it would make us feel better or build tough skin. The truth is that what works is speaking truth to people and giving knowledge—the goal of this book.

Of all the lies ever told to me as a child (and I still hear it as an adult) is you can never trust a woman. I was told this by the very women in my life whom I thought had wisdom and knowledge. What I later realized was that these women had been burned or hurt by women whom they felt they could trust at some point. Hurt feelings can be hard to shed especially when the hurt comes from those we love or consider friends and family. I grew up believing that women couldn’t be trusted until my mid-20s. It was at this time that I spoke out loud to God that I would make female friends and we would have good and truthful bonds. What followed was the truth: once you plan for something, you’ll probably get what you planned for. Since my mid-20s, I have developed sister bonds with women ranging from their early 20s to their late 80s.

I was able to build these relationships because I vowed to be upfront and honest about myself
