About this ebook

A Convenient Dilemma The Poetic Thoughts of a United States Sailor is a collection of poems that were written by Tyler Davidson a U.S. sailor assigned to the USS Nimitz over the course of the USS Nimitz 2013 WESTPAC deployment. These poems are written in prose and traditional poetic styles, and their subjects include family, relationships, distant memories, and abstract thoughts. Each poem holds a particular meaning, but those meanings arent always as obvious as one might think. Some may tug at the readers emotions, while others may leave the reader with a feeling of comfort and warmth. As a whole, this collection of poems is meant to give the reader a glimpse into the thoughts that ran through the mind of one sailor on his very first deployment.

Tyler Davidson

Tyler Davidson is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated in 2004 from Winston Churchill High School, and subsequently went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008. Following his departure from the University of Texas’ forty acres, Tyler Davidson held long and short-term positions at different companies in the central and south Texas regions, but in 2011 he decided to make a bold move that allowed him to follow his heart, and he decided to join the armed forces, just as generations of men before him had done. Tyler officially enlisted in the United States Navy on October 25, 2011, and upon his assignment to his first command on the USS Nimitz in Everett, Washington, Tyler immediately began his first application for Officer Candidate School (OCS). Tyler was declined for admission his first time around, but he characteristically began his second application, and soon thereafter he received his acceptance into OCS in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion of OCS in July of 2014, Tyler Davidson will receive his commission as an officer in the United States Navy, which will allow him to meet one of his lifelong dreams. This is Tyler Davidson’s first work of literature, and he expects to continue his work in the literary arena, while also making a career as a United States Navy officer.

    Preface

The thought of a book filled with a collection of my very own poems was never one that crossed my mind when my first deployment aboard the USS Nimitz commenced in March of 2013. I was just another sailor floating on that massive aircraft carrier, and my only concern was to fight boredom in my free time, which sometimes seemed abundant.

I had never actually tapped into my artistic side, but I felt that this might be the time to do so, and because a pen and paper were readily available, poetry began to flow. One afternoon, while on a break from flight operations, I began to write what turned out to
