PREFACE
Writing poetry comes from the heart. It is something you can’t ignore when a poem wants to be born. It is a powerful force to be reckoned with.
Two poems started the whole collection. The Gift of Faith and Courage
on page 124 which depicts the People Power in the Philippines in 1986; and I Can Paint a Dream
on page 2, which was lovingly dedicated to my parents on their fortieth wedding anniversary in 1987.
A part of this collection remained hidden and forgotten since 1986. It was only revisited recently, and more poems were added in 2003.
This collection of poems is a celebration of life and death, love and romance, family and friendships, faith and moral values, nature and travels, career, hobbies and pets.
Below is a poem that is included in this collection to celebrate my parents. It is found on page 102.
My mother, my reality, my strength
My father, my dreams, my inspiration
Two different facts of life
But I can’t live without the other
Without reality, I can’t live fully
Without dreams, I can’t move on
Without strength, there’s no life
Without inspiration, there’s nothing to live for.
It is my ardent hope that the poems in this collection will touch your heart and help you find joy in your own life experiences. Enjoy every poem; it is all for you from me.
Hazel
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to thank everybody that has touched my life, especially my family who had always loved me all these years and all my friends who became my anchor and cheering squad at various stages of my life.
Grateful acknowledgements go to my friends at Galveston College: to Mary K. Clark who was the key to opening up my yellowed notebook of poems and kind enough to edit the first draft of this work; to Dee Florence for being one of my readers and for her support and encouragement ; to my mother Leova who prays for me everyday and loved all
