About this ebook

This book embodies the authors love for life and love of romance. While there are many love poems there are also poems about everything from storms to stillness, water to waves, and golf to fishing. There is something for everyone, young and old alike. Whether you read one page a day or sit down and read this book from cover to cover in one sitting, you will find it entertaining. There will be some stories that make you laugh and others that make you cry. All the author wants to do is give you a different way of seeing things. Enhance your life in some kind of way that will bring you joy and contentment (and rhyme).
This is a collection of 53 poems, 5 songs, and 2 short stories that were created over many years of writing and life experiences. The content found in "A Sister's Serenade" celebrates the people and experience of the author, Will Reuhl. A wide variety of topics and use of many poetic forms including Will's own example of "speed poetry" and "concrete poetry"can be found. The collection, like life, is Random.
There is the "Wine Cowboy" about winemaker, Eric Wente, and "I See Music in Colors" about Robert Frazier, a church choir director. Verses featuring admiration for notables like Ellen DeGeneres and William Shakespeare are included. From a walk on the beach in "Sand" to a Christmas memory in "Miracle in the Night", Reuhl has spent years writing what he sees and feels. Will has 3 grandchildren, whom have influenced many writings such as "Toys" and "Look Pop the Moon!" Will and his oldest granddaughter, Leena-10, even wrote a poem together, entitled "Your Look at Dragons".
There are so many life lessons that sprang from the thoughts and feelings evoked by the music Will's sisters shared with him as a child. This led to the title of the book. "A Sister's Serenade" strikes the chords of a boy growing into manhood and the chorus any reader can also hear and feel. Let the music take you away...

    Introduction

For many years, I had a love for writing, but not the time to write. In 2020, I found myself with more time to write and reflect. I hope you find words in this book that inspire, bring a smile to your face, or just help you appreciate your life more. There are three poems in particular that I wrote for people I know: Another Winter Without You, I See Music in Colors, and The Wine Cowboy. The first I wrote to comfort my mother after my father died. The second I wrote for my church music director, Robert Frazier, who is legally blind. The third I wrote about Eric Wente, a winemaker who grew up on a horse ranch. Someone recently asked me, who influenced my poetry? My answer was this diverse group of four: Maya Angelou, Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allen Poe, and Barry Manilow!

This book would never have happened without the support of my family, who throughout the years have put up with my loudness, constant interruptions, and self-importance; to see through to the sensitive, caring man that I am. I always had a thought in my head and as you will discover I am a hopeless romantic. I am in Love with Love. The idea of Love as an unconditional Love. The Love of a parent. The Love of a brother and sister. The Love extended from a smile or a kind word. The Love spread by saying hi to a stranger or understanding the words of a child.

In many ways, I never grew up, and yes, I act like a child sometimes. Like Peter Pan, I never wanted to grow up! Why can’t we (ALL) be friends? That is the thought of a child. Have you ever seen how fast two children become friends? There is no fear, no hesitation, and no preconceived thought. Just pure JOY! Did you ever notice how excited a child gets when they see someone they know? Why does the world have to judge us by what we wear or the color of our skin? Children don’t and neither should
