Weathering the Tempest - Christopher Guarino

Treasure Hunting For A Destined Soul

The idea of The One, or Soul Mate, is often discussed when a conversation turns to the topic of love and relationships. Is there someone out there, possibly across an ocean or on top of a mountain, who was meant to find you at some point in time and live happily ever after?

Often, people, especially in their teens and twenties, align themselves with this type of wishful thinking. This could be a result of their first few serious, and often immature, relationships ending in disappointment, a broken heart, and without the marriage vows and perfect happy life that was once imagined as kids. Maybe this way of thinking is also related to all the picture perfect imagery that the generations of today see on the silver screen. Countless movies, dedicated to the notion of true love and destiny, may fuel their belief and hope of that perfect person that is just around the corner.

Don’t get me wrong; this is not a bad way to live. I, myself, believe in soul mates (sort of) and have adopted this treasure hunting for the perfect person mentality. This chapter is my beacon of hope. It is the notion that there is someone out there for you and that you both will eventually meet.

    Dawn

Creeping through the valley, the shadow all around

Solitude helped me not, with one breath I almost drowned

Tormented by my thoughts, without a soul to call

Mind shattered, out of breath and tired of it all

It left me there, all alone, with just one place to go

Glancing sideways and straight ahead, not one orchid did grow

To see that place it would have cried, but couldn’t understand

How my life was falling down with no where safe to land

The madness was inside me, and it did its job so well

For when I reached the rocky edge, I nearly slipped and fell

But in the distance, beyond the elms, I saw her waiting there

Enchanting stare, earthy smile, and lunar eclipsed hair

Hand to hand, so divine, insides began to swell

Ghost orchid was born, the past would no longer dwell

My heart began to melt, the shadow quietly walked away

For with this girl, is where I could be, forever and a day

The presence of an angel overtook me with her sounds

Words covered me in satin, the comfort knew no bounds

This soothing voice and gentle touch made me feel complete

Knowing that, some heavenly fate, meant for us to meet

Floating side by side, dawn broke and skies began to clear

The darkness had ended, there was nothing left to fear

    The Hopes Of A Fool

    My long love

Like a lost pet finding its way back home

    I have a second chance

To be a companion, a best friend

To repair the cabin we built

    The blunders that came before

The holes, the leaks, the broken bed

    Cruel anxiety fills my windpipe

Forcing me to reach for a breath

It slides, like a luger toward my stomach

Bouncing off the lining like a Super Ball with a mind of its own

My nerves are awake now; their slumber is
