Author

Melvin W. Donaho PhD

Just about all of his 87 years, Dr. Donaho has enjoyed writing various types of literature. Since his Mother loved to write poems and songs; she also enjoyed teaching him to write poetry, but songs escaped him. His poetry results from what he sees, feels, believes and observes. This collection shares with you, the reader, examples of those poems he enjoyed the most. He hopes you will especially enjoy A Golden Friendship (received a 4.5 of a 5.0 possible rating by well over one hundred reviewers), The Saga of Goose (a true event), A Wooden Bowl (an observed situation), Round and Round They Weave or poems to inspire such as Teach Me to Pray or A Poem to Seth. Dr. Donaho writes because he feels inspired to do so. Two major honors include being selected to Whos Who in International Poetry and being selected to edit, and expand the scope of The Philosophy of Jain translated by Kirit Gosalia, MD. This work is available worldwide and is used to teach young English speaking Jains to understand their religion. As you read the works in this collection you will understand why Dr. Donaho enjoyed teaching and directing great dramas by Gilbert and Sullivan, Shakespeare and many others. The author is humbled to share this collection with you.

    A Golden Friendship - Melvin W. Donaho PhD

    A Golden Friendship

    To: Ruth

    On Our Golden Anniversary

    A wise man once wrote these eternal words of truth:

    "Marry someone whose soul you’ve come to love,

    For passion fades …

    But friendship lasts forever."

    After fifty golden years with you, dear Ruth,

    These words are engraved deep within

    My heart as truth.

    Yes, golden friendship has long endured

    And kept its luster throughout the years;

    And this is why I treasure still your golden love.

    Just over fifty years ago today, I asked

    For your hand, to hear you say,

    You’ll have to ask my Dad if it’s O.K.

    And, so I did. And after a merry chase

    Along the path, I cornered him to hear him laugh,

    What did my daughter say?

    Why, sir, I then replied, seeing the twinkle in his eye,

    that I must seek your permission.

    "My son, you have my consent on this condition:

    That you take good care of her,

    Treat her tenderly with love

    Know that her Mother and I are here for you as well."

    We took our vows and prayed to God above.

    Wealth and treasure had we none,

    Nor even a house to call our home;

    But, we were rich beyond compare with Golden love.

    Our Golden love has long endured

    And kept its luster through the years,

    And, we’ve been rich beyond compare with Golden love.

    Just as a rose so precious and so fair,

    Is the golden friendship that we’ve shared.

    It was planted with caring and warmed by the sun,

    We’ve known infinite sharing, laughter and fun.

    We’ve shared many blessings and it isn’t hard to see;

    That life’s most valued pleasures

    Were bountiful and free.

    It isn’t what we own nor treasure

    That signifies a measure of our wealth …

    But, those special gifts from God which know no price:

    Our family, friends, and health.

    We know not what tomorrow brings

    Nor how long we have left.

    Our faith is based not on believing that God can;

    But in knowing that He will.

    And, in days to come, that we’ll be truly blessed,

    With a love enriched by a golden friendship

    Beyond our fondest dreams to share.

    Dear Ruth, know that should you become sad;

    I’ll dry your tears.

    Should you become frightened;

    I’ll comfort your fears.

    Should you become worried;

    You may turn to me for
