Siren Song

Ophelia: Pretty. Poor. Sweet. Fair;
A nymph whose corporeal form sank deep.
While her lover was stabbed, non sa vois faire,
She remained free within the water’s keep.
Who knew that between the lilies and weeds
A siren was called to rise from her sleep?
Whose disast’rous life lead- (forgotten needs)
Would now be the snatcher of souls to reap?
So, her spirit outlives her paramour,
Creative life despite not having breath.
So remains the true Queen of Elsinore,
Through immortality has escaped death.
Creeks fl ow to rivers and then to the sea,
Too bad she had to die just to be free.

My brother turned into a bullet shell
Travers’d through the war-torn Afghanistan,
Expos’d his gunpowder to fie’ry hell,
In order to make him into a man.
Stolen at seventeen, brainwashed and dumb,
Temporary death came to claim his stead.
While my mother, who bore him now stood numb,
