    FOREWORD

    26829.png

It is a great honour to be asked by Roshan Ahmed to write the foreword to her book, a request which I carry out with the greatest pleasure.

This little gem of a book about the healing powers of Reiki, deals with the subject from a very original angle.

Most Reiki practitioners, who feel compelled to write about it, expound methods that they have learnt during courses they have attended.

Roshan Ahmed approaches the subject from the most important angle of all, namely the spiritual basis.

If we take the trouble to go to the original source of the Reiki healing process and read author Dr Mikao Usui’s book, he tells the world how he discovered this miraculous gift to humanity. He recounts his search which led him to spend years in a Zen Monastery–which in turn led him to turn to the Hindu Scriptures. He spent years studying Sanskrit and was thus able to discover profound secrets that could benefit the whole world. He spent many days fasting and meditating until he literally became enlightened. He saw the light which entered him, then saw the whole spectrum of colours and Sanskrit letters, each letter revealed and expounded the necessary steps to mental, emotional, physical and psychological healing.

Reiki cannot be learnt, it can only really be practiced by someone who is in daily contact with the Higher Divine Self which resides within the human heart. That contact can come about only through years of devotional, selfless service and deep unbroken years of regular meditation as taught by God Realized Masters.

Roshan has healed countless people, all willing to testify to her successful outcome.

She has been meditating for decades and follows a bona-fide, God Realized, Spiritual master. When she gives Reiki she literally passes on the spiritual power with whose source she is in daily contact.

This is true Reiki or Shakti which is the Sanskrit word for spiritual healing power. This is what makes this book about Reiki stand out from among all the others.

    INTRODUCTION

    26837.png

At the heart of the universe there exists a great all-pervasive Energy. Out of this energy everything is born, and to it everything returns. It binds the cosmos together, creating order out of chaos, and light out of darkness.

Many cultures and spiritual traditions refer to this energy, which has varying names across the continents and centuries. It has been known as the divine light of the truth or Shakti and as Prana or life-force in Hinduism; as Noor in Islam and Chi in Buddhism. In Japan this energy is called Ki, and it is from this etymology that the term Reiki is derived.

One aspect of this all-pervasive power is its capacity for healing. When the healer lays hands on the body, to relieve pain, give comfort and restore a person back to health. This power flows through the hands. During the 19th century a Japanese monk rediscovered this technique for utilising universal energy to heal disease and called it Reiki.

Reiki can connect anyone to their own natural healing powers, allowing the free flow of energy to transform their everyday lives. You, the reader are now on a journey of self-discovery, beyond religion or belief systems, which can release the lightness and joy lying within your own heart.

Reiki is as instinctive as a mother stroking her child’s bruised knee. With hands-on-love; the knee and the child feel better.

    CHAPTER 1

    MY EARLY LIFE

    26845.png

As a child, how I wished I had magical powers! I was desperate to know how I could perform a miracle to heal my father. Already, at ten years old, how I longed to take away his illness and make him whole again! My father was very ill, suffering from a serious heart problem and various other illnesses. Although I was aware of this, as a child, I was told very little. Even then, however, something intuitively told me that there was a ‘magical power’, somewhere, that could help him, but I didn’t know how to access it. As a result of his condition, my father was unable to work; his body was giving up, although he was struggling bravely to pretend that he was alright. I could feel the helplessness and hopelessness that he was going through.

My father had a heart as big as the universe and made me feel loved and secure, as though the whole world belonged to me and I was his little princess. He was very generous, buying me any toy I wanted or any amount of toffees I fancied. But it was always enough just to be with him. One of my vivid memories of my father is; seeing him with a gardenia flower in his buttonhole. My father loved gardenias. Even now the gardenia scent invokes loving memories of him.
