Lovers and Other Strangers: A Poetic View of the Male/Female Relationship
()
About this ebook
Marvin Dozier has an innate creative ability. He is quick to point out that "the male/female relationship is like a wheel in constant motion; always moving, but sometimes going nowhere". He has created personalized poems for the individual or couple; which truly reads as though they themselves have written it. He has a keen insight into the feelings within the many people for whom he created a poem. This experience, in combination with his two practiced Masters; one in Social Work; the other in Human Services; has provided him with a well-rounded understanding of people he engages. His book is a compilation of selected pieces of original work; spanning over four decades. He examines the Male/Female relationship through a series of poems, prose, and essays. He presents a unique understanding of the various stages and phases within the female/male relationship; writing from both perspectives of the correlation; exposes the ups, downs, love, joy, anger, hopes, dreams, fantasies, truth, lies, deceit, honesty, drama, stability; changes, bitter and sweet, failures and successes. It is experiential and imagination. His feelings are spilled upon the pages, for the most part, from an experiential nature. He carefully portrays the relationships, which - at times - make you look for the tear-stains upon the paper; or causing you to look to the sky for the rainbows he writes about; or the roses in the garden or vase. He takes you into yourself and allows you to clearly identify with that of which he writes . . .

Dedication
This book is dedicated to all of the men
Who have felt they have said all there is to say
And not being quite sure, of what was said…
It is further, dedicated to all of the women
Who have thought they had heard everything to hear
But not being quite sure
If they heard what they thought they heard
Or uncertain, as to just what was said…
And finally, dedicated to those who have not heard, nor said
anything
While there is so much to hear and say
See the soul of a man, and, the love of a woman…
42946.jpg42944.jpgPromise of a Fisherman
And when you cry
Just close your eyes
And think of me
And then you’ll smile
Know all the while
Right there with you I’ll be
And love goes on
In times of storm…
42329.jpg42361.jpgThe Gift
I give to you an anthology
Of romance dressed in poetry
To tell the world what you mean to me
To give of love, as you have given
To experience joy, this side of heaven
I guess one would call you a love maven
You are the sun that shines each day
You give me warmth as I go my way
Your love abounds as the sun shines its ray
You are the stars, within the skies
The glow of love sparkles in your eyes
I want the world to realize
That you are everything to me
My sun, my stars, my eternity
And all because you let it be…
42365.jpgWoman
I thought I knew a lady once
Who filled my heart with joy
For more than reasons I did think
Than she a girl, and I, a boy
She spoke with sureness, confidence
Of my friendship, she found to be
And of how I filled her life with joy
Conversely, she to me
Our nights were filled with pleasure
And likewise were our days
Oh how we cared, and shared so much
In so many splendid ways
She laughed, she loved; she lived for me
For her, I did in kind
I was all that she thought of
She stayed on my mind
I thought I knew that lady once
Who gave all she could give
But I did lose that lady to
Something called Women’s Lib
. . .
Man
Am I no different than you
Pursuing happiness, envisioning dreams
Am I no different
Do you not feel I want the same things
Joy, Love, Affection
Do you think I am abnormal
The same sensations I give to you
Do you not feel that I need them too
Is love so different for you
Can you not understand, this man
Beneath all of the cover
Do you not see and feel emotions
Emotions running over the edge
Over the edge of reality
Do you not see me drifting
Drifting to a love within love
Can you not feel my heartbeat
Pounding with anxiety, desire
I am all that you seek
I am all that you need
I am… man…
42369.jpg50946.jpgPeace of Mind
I thought that I should seek to find
The answer to sweet peace of mind
I thought it lay within money
Therein I’d find security
That would be peace of mind for me
I thought that once income was here
I’d need someone, it with to share
To give me warmth on winter nights
To share a love, and make things right
A lovely one within my sight
A house, a home, by my hands made
To watch trees grow, provide me shade
Two children to extend my joy
A lovely girl, a handsome boy
Whose eyes light up like Christmas toys
Where was it that peace of mind lay
What would make it here, every day
How could I gear my mind to find
That one ingredient for peace of mind
That was not akin to mankind
I searched, I dreamed I sought to find
That solace and that peace of mind
To find how life would treat me kind
Enhance my sight, not make me blind
Never leaving rainbows behind
Searching high in dreams above
Seeking out that lasting love
For the warm serenity
That would always be close to me
My warm and true, sweet destiny…
42530.jpg42753.jpgAutumn Thoughts
The gentle breeze, blows through the trees
Their tops in the wind bend
It ruffles the thought, of what Fall brought
A new love with which to blend
I counted the years, of falling tears
Again, and again, and again
Before this true love, from the heavens above
Released me from the pain
As the golding leaves, depart from the trees
In each I see your eyes
Your eyes full of splendor, as my soul surrenders
To a love, before unrealized
The beautiful blends, gold, green, and orange
Cast gently upon the ground
As in perfect array, on this early Fall day
Reminiscing of new love I’ve found…
42532.jpgMaking Up
How brilliant is the sun; which glistens in your hair
How soft and full of body it is; as you hold me near
As though carefully laid by Mother Nature; each strand
falls into place
I marvel at its richness; as it falls across your face
Your well molded forehead; is graced by your manicured
brow
I notice the true care given; as you hold me now
Below the brow your eyelids; shaded pink and blue
Foundation laid so carefully; you knew just what to do
So faint is the mascara; upon each single lash
Separate and made longer; without your being rash
Above you have used eyeliner; a navy sort of blue
To enhance your big, bright brown eyes; the truest part of
you
The two-tone blush over your cheekbones; magenta and
mandarin red
So finely blended together; you coordinate with your head
The sheer translucent powder; keeps you fresh all day
Your beauty so all aglow; I am breathless when I say
Your lips so softly painted; with graduated pinks
A thin persimmon outline; it makes me stop to think
So rich is my perception; and richer yet your style
Passion Pink and orchid colors; embrace your very smile
Your smile lights up the daytime; adds brilliance to the night
Your sensuality plays with me; you have done a job so right
You must have taken so much time; in coordinating hues
I thought to let you know I know; in a poem written for you…
42534.jpg50950.jpgLoving You
The one very good thing
about loving you;
Is that each day
I get the opportunity;
To love you more;
than I did the day before…
42536.jpgMarry Me
My love for you has grown so much; over the last few years
With other hearts, I have lost touch; your love diminish
fears
If I must count the one thing; that is constant within my life
That would be, the love you bring; as I seek you for a wife
My love for you is cultivated; with just one thought in mind
That it is all motivated; by the good in you, that I find
Your goodness glows in the darkest night; when I’m not by
your side
Your love shines as the brightest light; I want you for my
bride
Your warmth and tender kindness; is all that you ever show
To temptation you give blindness; my dimmer of the rainbow’s
glow
The generousness which you exude; is felt by me each day
You always manage to include me; in each prayer that you
pray
My love for you continues to grow; with each breath that I
take
The world can see me all aglow; glowing brightly, for love’s
sake
I will continue to confide; in you all that is nice
My love for you, I’ll never hide; in having you as a wife…
42538.jpg50952.jpgGetting Married
You are the morning sun to me
Shining brightly, so radiantly
Keeping me warm every day
Showing me love in every way
It is no surprise to me
The way you love, and to what a degree
How you do things, oh so right
Like kissing me warmly, and holding me tight
The way you see me through your eyes
You keep the truth, within your smile
I love you Darling, in every way
I’ll keep you ‘til my dying day
Somehow the angels know above
That you and I are filled with love
Upon our knees each day we pray
That God will always guide the way
Our marriage will take place real soon
It’s only three months until June
June 25th our wedding will be
To last throughout eternity…
42540.jpgMarried
I never thought that I could be
Wrapped up in love so endlessly
But it is true I must confess
In you, I love the very best
So glad these words I can say
Without it being Valentine’s Day
Each day of the year let me say to you
That you sure make my gray skies blue
I never thought to love this way
So complete, I’m bound to stay
Forever in love, compelled to be
In love with you, ‘til eternity
My love for you it does not end
It seems I have a lasting friend
And you too have a friend in me
Fulfilling our sweet destiny
I thought once more I’d never love
Until God sent you from above
Because inside, He knows my heart
And I would never from you part
He knows that you are good for me
And promised us eternity
If we took seriously our vows
Continue to feel as we feel now
Upon this page I will draw a close
With endless love that heaven knows
And
