    OPENING PASSAGE

S haken and stirred, I opened my eyes lazily. Time to wake up already? It couldn’t be! Why are you waking me up? It’s still the middle of the night? Is something wrong? What’s happened?

He’s here! He’s arrived, the answer came. I required no further incentive to be up and about. We sat together, trimmed our lamps carefully and filled them to the brim with fresh oil. Now that which had been dead had been cut off and new life had been poured in. We lit our lamps and they were shining brightly in the darkness that surrounded us.

That’s the lamps done! What about us? Jumping up quickly. We tidied our hair, brushed the creases out of our simple garments, picked up our cloaks and gave them a good shaking before we draped them over our shoulders. With that we were ready – all clutter, debris, dust and dirt removed and harmony, simplicity and readiness restored. We had on our garments of humility and praise! We were now entirely single-minded as he drew near. The waiting was over. The time had come at last!

Joyfully we met Him, we bowed low, we sang and danced and rejoiced and followed. Down the dusty lane, through the darkness and into the open door – before it was closed! We were securely inside! Our preparations had paid off. We were ready for the feast and our longing had been worthwhile, the banquet which had been prepared was breathtaking!

And yet – all of that paled when compared with The One. Just to be where He was, was more than enough. We knew that it always would be, for all eternity!

    CRUMBS AND THE MASTER

A crumb is defined as a small fragment of bread or other dry food or a small bit of scrap. according to Collins Dictionary.

T here is absolutely nothing attractive about that, or is there? So the question is obviously, why a book about crumbs from the Masters table? Surely nobody wants just a crumb! The intention of this book is simply to magnify Jesus. Compared with Him, I am only too thankful that I may receive a crumb from His table. The sections of this book consist of Scriptures and the crumbs I received from them to guide me to a closer, more intimate relationship with Him. It is a personal journey of seeking and searching and being content only with Him. James 1 verse 27 KJV says: "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." There is an awful lot of religion around, but not much of it is pure! I embarked on a personal quest and simply allowed the Holy Spirit to highlight certain Scriptures and to wrestle with these until I had received what the Word was saying to me. Mostly it was painful but always it was beautiful. Allowing the Word to penetrate is a most rewarding exercise, as God’s Word never returns void. There is always a result or a lesson or an instruction. It is powerful indeed. These are my crumbs which I pray will be a blessing to you the reader as well as an encouragement to spend time in the Word and that you too will increasingly hear the Shepherds voice. Religion will never satisfy, but relationship will.

If you have ever suffered rejection, and I believe that most of us have, then you will be able to identify. Feelings of inferiority perhaps, or of not belonging, maybe of always not quite measuring up, these are what led me to being able to identify with the story in Matthew 15: 21 - 28 and Mark 7: 24 - 30. This encounter with Jesus, became one of my favourite lessons in the gospels. I love this story for a variety of reasons. First, she is a woman. She is a gentile. An outsider. She is a nuisance who should be sent away, according to the disciples. She is persistent. She is desperate. She needs Jesus. Like me. She chooses not to become offended. She was willing to beg. She was willing to humble herself. I
