    Introduction

In our educational institutions today, many of our youth are taking the opportunity to enjoy life, attending parties and other social outings, thereby spending most times on things which are not very necessary and often end up not achieving their main goal.

Parents and guardians send their children and wards to school in order to enable them acquire knowledge in wide areas of life and above all prepare them for the onerous responsibilities as future leaders of their homes and the society at large. To this effect, parents thereby spend enormous resources to train their children to various levels in education as their resources can.

Those students who know their purpose of being in school spend most of their time on researches, attending soul wining seminars and acquiring as much knowledge as they can. Knowledge they say is power. This therefore gives them ability to tackle problem on their own. Rather than complaining every time, they see opportunities where others see impossibilities.

There are a lot of student, who are desirous of going to school but lack means due to poor financial background of their families. Atimes the parents’ perception and choice of particular courses causes delay in admission or causes eventual denial of higher education. Most prospective students today are victims of this issue of career choice by parents.

Many other things deprive students from attaining their educational goal. The question to us who is privileged to have people who are willing to sponsor you is- What is the desired level of qualification you want to achieve? How are you planning your life after school? You sit down and ponder over these questions.

Most times, parents make a lot of sacrifices and self denial to provide and carter for the well being of their wards in school. They in turn expect the best of performance from their wards while in school and even thereafter. Good performance will comfort them that their sacrifices and self denial were not in vain.

No parent would be happy seeing their children idle after education. In the present dearth of white collar jobs, young graduates should position themselves not only for self-employment but also as employers of labour. By this they will be able to take care of themselves and also contribute their quota to their families and the society at large.

Considering the number of unemployed graduate in our country, all students must adjust and brace up for the challenges. They must be ambitious and plan ahead of time as it is written in Ephesians 5:16 ‘’Redeeming your time because the days are evil’’. Get the best from your educational training to equip yourself for life.

    Chapter One

It was praise galore and unending happiness when Mr. Samuel Uzozie’s wife gave birth to his fourth child. The whole compound was on the happy hour as he heralded it all over. He resolved not to give birth to another child as he had whispered to himself on the number of children he hoped to have. That was a real appreciation as he offered to God in praises of its kind for giving them two daughters and two sons. It was a wonderful thing to him and his wife who he loved so much.

In deep expression of his love to his wife, he usually called her Patty whereas her full name was Patricia, making the woman to feel much loved and pampered in her uncompromising life-faith, trying to lay a better future for the children.

Samuel Uzozie, a civil servant, found it difficult to get a job after his graduation from school. As a student, he was completely dependent on the benevolence of relatives to survive, believing to be connected by one of his uncles who was working for government. His uncle had connection with those who headed many top positions and parastatals, and had links with many bureaucratic personnel. He depended solely on his uncles who beheaded him with shame at crucial periods, when the road was unstable for his family.

By the time he met his wife, Patricia, things were rough for him, things never moving, but his late father assisted him in acquiring some portions of hope and duly assisted him to settle down with a little income he managed to get; half of the money for his marriage was sponsored by his father. He had decided to go any length despite the consequences involved; he would do anything to carry out his responsibilities as a man.

The thought of what was the cause of the osteoarthritis he suffered when he was pursuing to become a priest after many years in the seminary still disturbed. Each time he remembered this, he mumbled bitterly. Those years spent in the theological school were indelible in his memory as he found it difficult to divorce it from his life, especially as he knew he would have used the wasted time and resources to become a better person.

Samuel got married to Patricia after he was rejected by the seminary because of the arthritis that attempted to truncate his life. This he said, remembering the soberly moment of his life when the sickness made the bishop to ask him to go in search of other careers. He narrates this experience to his children, including the advice that the bishop gave him.

My son, Samuel, I know it is your wish to be a priest, but you have to go home because it is not the wish of the Lord that you will be a priest.

He remembered his response to the Bishop amid sobs.

My Lord, what then do I do now? I have spent six years in this seminary and hope to be ordained a priest in the next two years. What do I do? He uttered, shaking his head in tears.
