I am sharing my life experiences and what I believe I should have known earlier in life before committing myself to the formal system of doing things. My ultimate goals are for you to obtain good grades at university and get a highly paid job.
I started writing What School Doesn’t Teach Us about three years ago. Many people, including my mentor, my spiritual father, and my wife, have accompanied, supported, and guided me to a point where I can confidently write a book about things I wish I knew earlier in school.
I want to appreciate my loyal, supportive, beautiful wife, Mrs Oluwabunmi Olusola, for supporting me to write and produce this inspiring book. You have been my rock and my partner in making sure this book is done within time. I love you so much and will always do right by you. Thank you to my mentor, Reverend Gabriel Olusola Olumide, who daily inspires me to be better and develop myself to be the best I can be. A special thank-you to my business partner, Mr James May, whom every day gets the best out of me with his sublime energy. Thanks to my parents, Mr and Mrs Olusola, for your inspiration and words of encouragement to finish this book. I feel so blessed to have you in my life for all your selfless help to get this book to the level only God can imagine it would turn out to be.
I wish to thank Mr Kay Oyediran for your advice and for carrying yourself so that you can inspire me. You have done a lot for me. I want to thank my family, especially you, Az, for being so considerate and well behaved during your pregnancy. You motivated me to finish this book knowing that one day you would read your dad’s work and feel so blessed and inspired to have me as your father.
It is of a great pleasure Mrs Florence Alara to have your input on the design of the book and the support you have rendered towards the success of this book. May God bless you abundantly.
I want to thank the publishers of this book for going the extra length to get the best out of the book and me as they aim for excellence. Also I would like to thank the Covenant Publishing team for their editorial input and support on the process of writing this book. It is with joy and happiness that I thank my mother-in-law, Ms Omowale Ajose-Adeogun, for all the help you have given us while writing this book. I appreciate your effort and do not take for granted all you have done for us.
Finally, I want to thank God Almighty for giving me the opportunity to start and the energy to finish this book. Only He can take the praise. Without His wisdom and grace, I would not have been able to write this book, and I want to give Him all the adoration.
Foreword
W hen Segun Olusola showed up at the entrance of the gate to my house in the July 2007 after I have declined his visits severally, I knew there was something about him but I didn’t know what that might be.
After spending time, living together for some years, we both enrolled into educational institutions. He went to study Economics and Investment while I studied theology which sometimes made us to be at loggerheads but I realised through our discussions, debates, different opinions that Segun would love to leave indelible prints on the face of the earth, that is legacy.
I believe with this book he is going to build a culture of unparalleled strategic reach, one that will eventually affect individuals in diverse ways; the youngs to choose or to make decisions that are vital to their lives and opening up the minds of the parents in helping their children to choose their careers rather than choosing or imposing on them. It will also make a massive influence to educational institutions and live events around the world.
A lot of young people that are close to him will eagerly affirm they owe their lives and careers to Segun because of his passionate interest in them to choose a career that will give them a fulfilled life.
Segun poured out his concerns, love, thoughts, experiences and abilities to inspire others to soar to higher level by writing this book. He chose to selflessly write something applicable to anyone looking to break barriers in whatever his or her passions lie.
The book you are about to read is about who Segun is, his beliefs, raw wisdom and flair to know about people who have written history, changed and imparted the world and his willingness to inspire others to do the same.
It is a great privilege that I am able to make a positive influence in his life in bringing out a book of wisdom like this.
Enjoy,
Revd Gabriel Olusola Olumide

Introduction
A chieving a good grade and going to university used to be a noteworthy academic accomplishment. Today, you do not need a university degree to have a sound economic achievement. The changing world of the market has made formal education less important compared to the informal education which is required to get the best out of you and your career. Everyone’s life is unique and dynamic, and so we need different elements. At the same time, we need a single item that will create a thriving career that will give us financial accomplishments.
Being in paid employment, or owning your business, could be cemented today with more than one type of education. The addition of informal education and creation of a structure that includes skills and value can give life fulfilment. The accumulation of either the formal system or the informal system of education provides average returns, but the use of both forms of education will give a thriving career that will bring about productivity and create financial accomplishment. Many people crave formal education and do not have many skills, but those productive and wealthy people strive for both the academic and non-academic systems of education.
Knowledge is power, and the utilisation of both formal and informal education will give the power to achieve anything. Most things taught at school are not practical and so do not correlate with real-life skills needed by employers and by prospective customers. Utilising informal and formal systems of education should get the best out of life. Life gives you what you deserve, not what you want or what you desire. You need to acquire many skills, and only then will life accept you and give you what you desire, which is the value you are giving into life, thereby rewarding you with financial empowerment, power, status, and wealth.
For monetary resources to be secured, it is mandatory that you accumulate and generate a stable building, which you will learn about in this book. Then you will have a building that is designed by and unique to you. This way you have higher productivity, which will be in demand by prospective employers or customers, and you will be rewarded handsomely for what you have been able to gather for your building. Your building must be firmly established on the rock, or else it will be washed away, which could be in the form of competition from your rivals or colleagues. Life is full of competition, and only the strong conquer and win. Whether you have been able to secure a suitable employment or develop your business, there will be much competition from others willing to take your place in the marketplace. Therefore, you need to develop a permanent building which will endure the test of time.
Going through the formal education system does not give excellent skills for selling. Everyone on the earth has to sell something at one time. Regardless of the vocation you are in; you are directly or indirectly selling, so you should master the art of selling. As an individual who works for a company, you will need to be able to sell your skills to your employer, thereby creating value for the business, which will make you productive and thus rewarded with financial benefits. Selling is always in every business and occupation. We tend to undergo different responsibilities in our respective jobs, which are the techniques we are using to sell our skills and create value.
The various elements illustrated in this book cover main areas that the school system has neglected. Informal education could complement people’s learning capability after achieving formal education qualifications. Matters referred to in this book show the things you need to have to fully utilise formal and informal educational systems to get yourself the best out of life. Some areas in the book will be more applicable than others. I would advise that you should adapt your situation to
