INTRODUCTION
Teenage Research Unlimited (TRU) reports that teenage spending has risen by more than 50 percent in the last three years. These same teens, who may be failing in the National School Examinations, seem to be getting high marks on their spending.
What has caused and brought our teens to this place where they feel entitled to mobile phones, designer labels, overpriced electronic gadgets, and dinning at fast food restaurants?
The credit card debt way of life must be dissuaded and discouraged from an early age. A stop must be put to this outrageous lifestyle; least you become uncontrollable spender.
Are you aware that in the U.K. alone, the average teen was known to have spent £55 a week in 2001, mainly on clothes, accessories, and fast foods?
Do not worry. You alone are not to blame for this disastrous occurrence and prolific spending habits, since some parents have neglected their responsibilities to a certain extent. They are preoccupied and are overwhelmed by work and careers. Then there are those with troubled family lifestyles—divorced, single, dealing with an absent father or mother, to say a few.
Out of guilt, such parents try to cover up their insufficiencies by showing their children the money. This has given rise to teens with carefree, big-spending habits and insatiable greedy appetites.
The aim of this book is to catch this unruly habit early and throw light on the positive lifestyle of the go-getter entrepreneurial teen.
As a teen, you need to be educated financially and quickly too. Make it an obligation so you do not fall into the same traps as your parents and predecessors have fallen into. However if you think educating yourself this way will be expensive, then you should reconsider your stand, as your ignorance will cost you millions in unwise spending.
Billy Graham, a renowned evangelist, said, If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area of his life.
Dr. J. A. Holmes said, Never tell a young person that something cannot be done. God may have been waiting for centuries for somebody ignorant enough of the impossible to do that thing.
As a teen, with the right kind of knowledge, information, and exposures you could be the next Bill Gates, Richard Branson, TD Jakes, Picasso, Albert Einstein, and the kind of person who will greatly influence their world in a positive way.
Train yourself to be a history maker and a world shaker.
The sad truth is that scarcity consciousness will gladly seize any mind that is not occupied with invention and money awareness. This awakening to entrepreneurship is a must for all teens who desire not to follow the status quo.
The story of your life has already begun; write it exactly the way you want it to be read. Do not let situations, circumstances, and bad choices write it for you. Take control now. Learn, observe, and act on the knowledge you gain from books—especially this book—and from others who have trodden the same paths you want to pursue and through sharing what you have learned with others.
Entrepreneurship is the key in today’s world. Set this standard and you will achieve it.
CHAPTER 1
FEED YOUR DREAMS AND
STARVE YOUR DOUBTS
A man’s worth is no greater than the worth of his ambition.
Marcus A. Antoninus
John Ruskin admonishes, Dream lofty dreams and as you dream, so you shall become.
You should dare to dream the impossible. Throughout history, man keeps on doing what has been thought to be impossible prior to the breakthrough. The Wright brothers invented something that was not created to fly naturally. Today we call it the airplane.
Prior to this invention, people thought it highly impossible for a piece of metal to be suspended in midair, let alone in the outer heavens.
Dream and add action to your dreams, because dreaming alone will get you nowhere.
If you have dreams of seeing a better world, by creating your new invention, or simply by improving on an already existing service or product, then you are truly on your way to making your dream a reality.
Most teens do not have or are not trained to have a dream. However there is simply no excuse for not having one either.
Every human born of man is endowed with the ability to dream, to imagine, and to envisage the miraculous. No one can say for sure or even give a predicament on the heights you can soar and no one can look beyond your own horizon except you.
You need to spread your wings and fly to heights through your dreams, imaginations, and actions. Go wild, stretch yourself, see yourself breaking through
