About this ebook
Calhoun is a simple plan to go from poverty
or youth (youth usually includes poverty) to
financial improvement and then to financial
independence, even wealth at the level of
multimillions of dollars. Inside are simple
concepts and doable strategies that lead to
financial success and the security and the
positive things that wealth enables. Had our
Congress followed the 1% approach described
in this book there would be no national debt
and our nation would be far more secure and
prosperous. I believe the concepts found in this
book should be taught to all children while in
school. Most people are unfortunately never
shown these simple ideas.
Charles D. Calhoun
The author is a lifelong educator having been a high school and middle school Science teacher for forty years in New York. His interests include investing, art, physical fitness and health. After obtaining the qualification of CFP (certified financial planner) he elected instead to remain a teacher and continue to work with young people. In fact this book was written to inform and motivate young people to their potential. His art includes paintings and stained glass work (including making the lamp shown inside this book). Art creates beauty that can be enjoyed every day. As a health and fitness advocate (also licensed in Health Education and Physical Education, Manhattan College, 1968) he has been training since age 14. Now 65 he still daily runs or swims for fun and fitness. One of his proudest athletic achievements was running the New York City Marathon in 2 hours 46 minutes in 1983 (a 6:19 per mile pace for 26.2 miles. Cool!). I believe the concepts found in this book should be taught to all children while in school. Most people are unfortunately never shown these simple ideas.

DEDICATION
I’d like to dedicate this book to all the young people (and the older ones as well) who stand to benefit from the ideas presented inside. They have the time to achieve the great things described in this book. Some of the results described take 20, 30 or 40 years. To young people that may seem like an eternity. But we old timers understand that time passes and before you know it great amounts of time have passed. But if your time is used as described in this book your future could be very rich and very successful. Fantastic in fact.
I’d especially like to dedicate this book to my friend Rachael. Rachael
and I trained as we ran long distances in the Rockefeller Preserve as she prepared for her college cross country seasons. I was very impressed with her willingness to work hard and her dedication to running and fitness. I thought, I’d love to be 18 again. Knowing what I do today about investing and finance. I’d use that time to build a fortune.
So this book is written to share that information with Rachael and all the young people who stand to benefit most. It is my hope that they can use the ideas presented in this book and the time they have to build a richer and more successful lives for themselves and their loved ones.

INTRODUCTION
MILLIONAIRE, YOU CAN BE ONE
Money isn’t everything, but lack of money sure is the pits.
Become a millionaire; why would I want to do that?
Well, because if you had a million dollars, that is a lot of money to spend. Or because it could be invested and it could turn into $2 million, $5 million, $10 million, or even $100 million. That’s a fine reason. Or because each million might produce an income of $50,000 per year or more. So imagine if you had $5 million. That would produce an income of about $250,000 per year or about $20,000 per month. For most people, that would be a nice allowance. And in this book, we will show you how to do all the above.
Gradually, over a lifetime, some people figure out how to become financially successful or well-off. Some become millionaires. Quite a few do, in fact. Yet they are a small minority even in the richest country on earth, the United States. To some extent, that has been my story. Money wasn’t the most important thing to me. I was too busy working in my career (as a teacher) and raising our family. But over time I have learned quite a bit about money and investing and have become a fairly successful investor. You could say I became wealthy, financially independent and a millionaire.
You can do it!
Sadly, most people never figure it out. Many are fooled by the mistaken idea that the government will provide for them. Nobody could provide for you as well as you could for yourself. They don’t have the motivation. They don’t know what your goals are. And they are too busy providing for themselves to care about your desires. And many others lose years and even decades before they figure it out. The loss of that time prevents them from being as successful as they might have been had they known this vital information at a young age.
You see, the ideas presented in this book are simple and fairly easy to understand. Equally important, they are doable. It isn’t rocket science. Anyone can do this. It may not be overly easy to do, but it sure is simple. I’m writing this book to share some of
