Nicky’s Family
November 25, 1977 Nicholas Scott Lagasse was born—into a family of five brothers and two sisters and a 3 year old nephew. Robert Alfred Lagasse, Jr (AL) 24 years old:Theresa Lynn Lagasse (Terry), 22 years; Michael Francis Lagasse, (Mike) 21 years; Wayne Alan Lagasse, 19 years; Jane Louise Lagasse, 17 years; Christopher Charles Lagasse, 12 years; David Lawrence Lagasse, 10 years; and Michael Dean Lagasse, (Michael Francis’ son), 3 years; including Robert A Lagasse, Sr. (Dad) and Barbara Pacetti Lagasse (Mom).
Al was in the Navy on the USS Nimitz, an atomic aircraft carrier; Terry was married with two children—John Joseph Looney and Annette Looney. Jane was married with a son Robert Evans Johnston, Jr.
Nick arrived 4 days before his Mom’s 45th birthday. Nick was a real treasure. David chose his name. He and Chris had a deal—that, if a boy, David named him and, if a girl, Chris could chose the name. David won!
Nick was such a happy child. Michael was three and the two of them were so much fun together.

Mom’s Part of the Story
By the time Nicholas was six weeks old we noticed that his eyes turned out somewhat. We took him to an opthalmologist. Dr Letts dilated his eyes and did what I would consider to be a thorough examination. According to the doctor it wasn’t too unusual and he could see nothing really wrong. He recommended bringing him back at 9 months. We did. By then the eyes had begun to look and move normally and the doctor said that he could see no problem just bring him back before he started to school.
Problem! At 17 months we noticed that if he dropped something he patted around on the floor for it instead of just picking it up. He stumbled over things and sometimes ran into the table which was at his head height. Back to the Opthalmologist!
The Doctor told us to take him to a pediatrician and see what he said because he wasn’t a specialist for children. We took him to Jacksonville to a pediatrician. He called a neurologist who agreed to stay after hours to see Nick.
