Description

In this episode, Madison shares her positive natural induction story with her daughter Everly. Madison's Bio: Madison is a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first daughter, Everly, in October 2019. Through her blog, Little Teacher Wife, she shares posts about marriage, family, and teaching to help make fellow mom’s lives a little bit easier! Madison's Birth Story: After 40 weeks of pregnancy, including a few hospital stays and a surgery for kidney stones, I was definitely ready for my baby girl to be earth side! I had a strong desire to delivery naturally without pain medication or epidural, and was worried about how an induction might interfere with that plan. At less than 1cm dilated, and after trying all the tricks to get labor going on my own, my doctor and I decided to give my body one more week (until 40w5) to go into labor spontaneously. If not, we would induce with a Foley bulb on Sunday, October 13. Of course, October 13 came with no signs of progression, so we headed in to the hospital to start the induction process. The on-call doctor placed the Foley bulb at 6pm on Sunday night, and I spent that night in a bit of discomfort, but nothing terrible. At 7am on Monday morning, just as the nurse was setting me up on the portable monitors, my water broke! I was able to get one lap around the labor hallways before the intense contractions started. I spent the next 11 hours alternating between a rocking chair, yoga ball, hands and knees, in the shower, and standing. I did use nitrous oxide on two occasions which helped me relax quite a bit. At 6:00 pm, I was fully dilated and ready to push! The doctor quickly realized that this was a big baby, and it was going to take a while to push her out! 2 hours of intense pushing later, 26 hours after the Foley Bulb was placed, I delivered my little girl! After an hour of skin-to-skin and bonding as a new family, the nurses took her stats and I was able to get up, walk around and get cleaned up and changed. Then back to resting with our 9 pound, 12 ounce, 22 inch long baby girl!
