Description

In this episode, my friend Kara shares her 31 week preterm birth story and her term delivery of her 2nd baby! Kara's Birth Story My first baby, Quinn, turned my world upside down. His birth came as quite the surprise when my water broke one night at 30 weeks and 6 days while cooking dinner. After getting to the hospital and running a series of tests it was confirmed that my water had broken and I was transferred to a different hospital with a level 4 NICU. I was placed on a series of different medications to help his lungs develop and stop my contractions for 2 days. After I was "steroid complete" I was taken off the medication to stop my contractions and Quinn was born a few hours later. He was 3 lbs 8oz of scrawny cuteness. He spent 28 days in the NICU and was what they called a "feeder and grower" without any complications during his stay other than the typical preemie breathing and heart rate issues. Quinn is now a healthy, funny, sweet almost 4 year old who loves trucks and playing outside.    We always wanted a big family, so after a lot of thought we decided we were ready to try for baby number 2. My pregnancy with Evie was medically uncomplicated but I dealt with a lot of PTSD and anxiety over the possibility of having another preemie. Due to my history of premature delivery I had cervical length measurements every 2 weeks through my 2nd trimester, and got weekly progesterone shots from weeks 16 to 36. Evie was both at 39 weeks in the lightning fast one hour labor from start to finish. My water broke at home at 10pm. We got into the delivery room at 11:10 and she was born at 11:12pm. Her feisty almost 2 year old personality very much matches her entrance to the world.    I am now pregnant with my 3rd baby and we are receiving co-care through my OB office for the progesterone shots and cervical length ultrasounds and planning a home birth with a midwife team. If the 3rd baby is usually a wild card this little one has a lot to live up to!    You can find Kara on social media here: Free resources: https://karacoffin.com/free-resources/ Prenatal fitness membership: https://programs.karacoffin.com/ 20% off with code Liesel20 (postpartum coming soon!)   Website: www.karacoffin.com IG: https://www.instagram.com/kara.coffin/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/karacoffin.ces/   SPONSOR: This episode was sponsored by yours truly!
